Just thought this was interesting...

The first half of USC's 2001 schedule was the toughest half just like UT's is this season.

After the 7th game USC was sitting at 2-5, but there worst loss was by 11 points to Notre Dame. Their other losses were by 4, 2, 5, and 3 points

They lost to a mediocre (6-6) Kansas State team 6-10 in the 2nd game of the season (our UCLA game this year?), and followed that up with a 2 point loss AT #7 Oregon (Who went on to finish 2nd and 4th in 2 different polls...Alabama?). They lost the next two games by a combined 8 points...and then crushed Arizona State at home 48-17...Arizona State was 3-1 before the game. (Georgia?)

After losing to Notre Dame and starting 2-6, they went on to win their next four games, including an upset over #21 ranked UCLA (South Carolina? We'll see) in the regular season finale 27-0.

They played Utah in a bowl game on Christmas Day of 2001 and lost 6-10 to finish 6-6 after starting off 2-5.

I just thought their record and stats were very similar to this first season under Kiffin...like it takes a little while for everything to gel and once it does the team will be tough to beat.

And the next season the Trojans went 11-2 with probably the toughest schedule in the country with two losses by a combined 8 points...

I just don't see us ever really getting blown out with Kiffin like we did a few times with Fulmer, and I hope were headed in the same path as USC, it looks like that so far

And one of those losses in 2002 was to my Cougs, oh yeah! It's been a while since I have been proud of them.

I have already said that the 2009-2010 volunteers remind me of the 2001-2002 Trojans.

FYI, Pete is 27-1 against non conference foes since that Kansas state loss

I agree that the trends are going to be similar. CPC is CLK's mentor and we should be able to expect the same results. I believe that wins and losses this season are secondary to the ultimate goal of building the program into a dynasty.

who was the QB that year? Carson Palmer? think if Crompton had another year he'd win the heisman??

Dude, he's had a nice two (actually 3) week run but c'mon....

Kiffin is praising him w/ draft talk but I am not so certain that isn't to let prospects know its more about fitting in to his system than it is JC's overall talent. Not saying JC doesn't deserve credit but Heisman banter is ludicrous

The Vols schedule looks to be tougher in 2010 with Oregon and LSU on it...and when USC went 11-2 they only played 1 team that didn't finish with a winning record the whole year

So an SEC title in 2010 and National Championships in 2011, 2012. WOW ! No pressure there.

usc plays in a weak conference. Kiffin doens't have that luxury. Vanderbilt could easily beat half the teams in the pac 10.
