Its obvious as of now that drawing comparisons of other teams in the nation to UT are just plain ridiculous. Everyone is still searching for their team to show up and our 39 point drubbing from Florida doesn't seem to sting as bad now after this weekend. We are still in it that's for sure, but if we don't find a defense then we are in big trouble. I hope to see us in the hunt after October, but I just can't bring myself to believe that we will win out let alone lose less than 2 games because of our defense.

Exactly how does Florida being beaten at home make losing to them by 39 look better?

If being back in the hunt for the East and not having to play Florida again AT Florida doesn't make you feel better hat, then nothing will. I am still in the "new direction" camp though, and I really would like to see Fulmer win just to shut us all up. The reality of it though is, LSU is the best team in the SEC as of right now and if LSU beats Florida and we beat GA, then we lead in the East. Whether we win the East or not, the play of our team from now until the end of the season will say a lot of how we are developing players from start till finish. My one wish is Chavis get his head out of his ass and shows up the rest of the way so we have a chance.

No, then Kentucky would be leading the East.

Your right. I can't believe that I am still writing them off. I guess those MANY years of them being in the cellar are over. They still have to play some strong teams, just as we do, I just don't know if KY's defense can hold up all season.

the kool-aid is really spiked with some potent stuff these days. A Florida loss seems to have cured all of Tennessee's woes at this point. With UGA, Bama, USCe, Arkansas and UK still on the schedule Tennessee still has at least 2-3 losses to earn this year.

At least we got a win, per say, on our week off with Auburn beating Florida. I do agree that we have the ability to lose 2-3 more games, but we haven't lost hem yet even though we don't matchup well on defense to anyone at this point.

I really think something completely wacky could happen this year. Like a 4 team tie for the lead or the division winner with 3 losses or something.

Yes, the good news is we are back in the race. The bad news is that the Florida team that drubbed us by 5.5 TDs may not be as good as advertised.

My point to this whole thread is the fact your can't compare a team to another team. It all depends who shows up to play on a given Saturday. 5 of the Top 10 teams lost this weekend. This weekend proves nothing other than if your WHOLE team doesn't show up to play, then your outcome can be very grim.

Yes, I think a change in the coach and staff at UT would be beneficial for the direction of the program at this point. However, I do not let that cloud my judgement. Is it certain we will win the SEC East? Of course not. But from the talent we put on the field, especially our offense, there is no way to just disregard the chance that UT wins the East. I have seen Alabama and UGA play twice and they are far from scary. Arkansas' defense is as bad as ours, not to mention their coaching is equally as pathetic as ours. I have seen USC play twice as well. Again, not very impressive. UK is the scariest team that we have left to play just because we don't know how "for real" they are. We will have a better idea after the next three weeks. Obviously, we have some major improvements to make but we certainly have the capabilities of winning the SEC East. Likely, nope. But not outside of the realm of possibility.
