I'm not a big history buff..but I stumbled across the TN vs Texas A&M Cottonbowl game (2005)

I was watching the game and it seemed like they had similar comparisons.

- loaded with WR

-RB's didn't look great

-special teams needed work

-Defense gave up some huge runs

I'm just asking if there is another past team we can NOW compare ourselves...and hopefully we'll get a better idea of what to expect.

Based on what you've described above, it seems like the 2010 team might be comparable.

2007 vols had Foster and Hardesty, and this was Foster's good year.

Lucas Taylor and Josh Briscoe don't really compare to what Tennessee now has at WR so it goes both ways.

But there's no Berry or Rogan in the defensive backfield or a Jerod Mayo at LB

Maggit and johnson are gonna be beast this year. It sure would be nice to have someone on D to step it up like Eric tho

2008 might be a comparison.

not based on personal but the dramatic change of a complete system change, defense this time instead of offense..

Learning a completely new system along with a bunch of new coaches takes time. Always lots of things goes wrong with these scenarios, as we have seen the last few year.

Hopefully, key offensive players can stay healthy, eligible and play at a very high level so Tennessee can survive the mistakes from the other side. Can't compete for a championship while learning, but might be competitive.

It will be interesting to see how the defensive backfield depth chart works itself out.

Hopefully there will be enough competition to push the designated starters across the board. I do think the defense might toughen the offense up a little bit this year.

2006: 3 good WR's (Meachem, Swain, Smith); Junior QB ready for a breakout season; new assistant coaches
