Leadership in any organization is the key to success.

Leadership requires the ability to communicate. Management (head coaches) have to be to communication with employees (players, coaches, and fans). Our head coach is an illiterate. No wonder the players are confused. Just listen to Pruitt’s post game interviews ...his comments are an incoherent massacre of the English language. His compulsive gulping of water is an indication of his nervous discomfort being in that spot light. Compare his post game comments to Notre Dame’s coach after their loss to Georgia. The difference is palable.

It’s sad to realize the head coach of UT needs a media relations coach so he doesn’t come across as a Neanderthal who doesn’t know basic English. No wonder our players and coaches are confused. I am confused, and disheartened, when I listen to Pruitt ramble in such a incoherent and uneducated way. If he’s the CEO of UT football, he gets an F on communication.

It’s not mean spirited...the guy needs to learn how to professionally represent the University. Corporate executives get media coaching so they know to handle themselves during analysts conference calls and press interviews. Pruitt needs asvmuch, if not more help, behind the podium as he does on the field.

Or is leadership the key?
Or is leadership with communication skills the key?

But what if I don’t have those, but do have a big stick? Beating folks with a big stick certainly gets their attention.

It absolutely is mean spirited. If you wanted to bring up the fact that CJP's message isnt reasonating with the players, that's a fair (and accurate) critique. The illiterate comment wasnt needed. Coach O isnt understandable at all but his message resonates with his team...

I apologize... I went back and listened to his post game remarks again. “Uh”, “um”, “you know”, “done” instead of “”did”, “was” instead of “were”, etc., etc.proves he’s an intellectual giant.

Vol fans seem to be the only ones bothered by the way he talks behind the podium. Communication is key to leadership. He is leading the football team, not the media. He should be judged by what he puts on the field. But there is a thousand of those threads on here as well.

If he were winning games, the way he speaks wouldn't be an issue. As a fan base, when we are not happy with the product, we simply look for all and anything. I can assure you, he didn't get to where he is in life by being The Village Idiot.

Normally I would say a head coach has to be able to clearly give his instructions to his players and staff and to give a clear, passionate pep talk to his team like a Vince Lombardi but I don’t know how well that resonates with today’s players. Maybe Coach Pruitt articulates his thoughts a lot better to his players/staff than to the general public. It would be interesting to know what he was like during his interview with Fulmer. Also, like someone mentioned above, coach O at LSU seems to be getting it done and he does not seem like a good public speaker but I have never heard him give a press conference.
Being a good public speaker takes some talent which I do not have so I do not say this as a bash toward anyone.

Pruitt's not going to win any speech contests any time soon, but who cares, just put a winning product on the field and nobody will care if you do come across as the village idiot.

I listen to a lot of his pressers. He sounds calm and rational to me. He's never said anything so irrational to cause any of us fans to get hyped up about. He actually goes out of his way to explain some of the techniques he'd like to employ. He's definitely not the only coach I've heard not use proper grammer. Hear any cajuns attempting to berate coach O ? Pruitt and this staff have forgot more about football than many of us will ever know. NCAA rules are putting coaches in a bind with the way they schedule practices, etc....It just takes a while for players to develop and learn schemes nowadays compared to years ago and we'll be alright. Bama went thru 10+ years of mediocracy until they hired Saban who was their 6th hire during that period.

It doesn't seem to be hurting coach O one bit in Baton Rouge. If we were winning how he speaks English would have nothing to do with this. He talks fine, I've heard worse that were successful. He is a football coach not a English major. GBO!!!!!

I can't say that I have a problem with this and it seems like nitpicking to me and nothing but trying to get personal.

His speech patterns reminds me of some of the great football coaches when I was growing up.
