Commercials in college sports is out of hand. I have noticed lately they actually displace parts of the game causing viewers to miss important plays.
I think this is really bad for the fans.
Has anyone else noticed this?.
I hate what ESPN, and Sports South has done to college football over the last few years and I hate commercials completely displacing parts of the game.
Wonder if something can be done about this?.

I remember on CBS there was some football game that kept coming on in between the commercials.

The average game has 11 minutes of action from snap to whistle. A commercial should never interrupt actual play.

For the 3+ hours you spend watching a football game there are 17 minutes of replays, 75 minutes watching people huddle up and stand at the line and an d the other third watching commercials.

trust me it could've been any game on CBS...should be at one when it's on CBS...beer breaks and bathroom breaks galore...oh, and work on your novel...:)

GO VOLS!

At least they aren't cutting off the game to show, "Heidi"

I see it all the time. Coming back from a break and I've missed the kickoff, or come back to find out they're just done with first down. It's ridiculous. Almost as bad as when (usually CBS) wants to show clips of other games to illustrate some bs that Gary is spewing, instead of showing the replay of an important down. Stinks.

I thought this thread was going to be about the boner commercials at every break. Always makes watching a game with the kids a lot of fun.

And 10 to 15 minutes of taking a leak depending on beer consumption.

Did anyone notice that the bowl games or at least the MSB did not have nearly as many commercial breaks as the regularly televised ones. One of my pet peeves of going to a game is the length of time it takes to complete due to the extended commercial breaks. I realize it pays the bills but a 3 to 3 1/2 hour game is a bit much.

Yeah I wish they did it like NCAA basketball where they had predetermined tv timeouts (the under 16, under 12, under 8, and under 4 min marks). But in football l, it should be like the under 8 min mark per quarter or something.
A 4 1/2-5 hour game just isn't cutting it. Speed it up

The A&M game, with overtime, was nearly 5 hours long.

There were so many injuries in that game which didn't help. I remember a UT player was down, maybe O'brien, and after they got him off the field CBS went to commercial. :banghead2:

They will milk every possible dollar out of a game until people can no longer find the time or patience to sit through it all.

I wonder what kind of analytics they produce? Not sure how they measure viewer-ship these days but it would be interesting to see how people stay engaged as the time+commercials increase.

This would be great.

All the NCAA will hear is that games are too long and shorten the amount of football. The commercials aren't going anywhere. I personally hope they don't shorten the game to keep the commercials, but I'm pretty sure that is wishing on a star.

Seems like going out of bounds used to stop the clock till the next play, now they start the clock once the ball is set(except the last 5 min of half and game). That's shortening the game for more commercials.

Unless I've got somewhere to be take as long as they want, if I've got somewhere to be, if the Vols are leading run that clock.

It is pre-determined in football. I don't have the chart in front of me, but there's an automatic TV timeout after the first score, change of possession, etc. There is a set schedule, it's not random.

The actual commercial load in NCAA Football games has not changed in over 10 years. The number of breaks and time those breaks can be is set by the NCAA and, like I said, has not changed in 10+ years. Games that are on network TV (CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox) can have breaks that are an additional 30 seconds over breaks on cable stations.
