Dont go to Maurice's. It might be the most openly racist business out there.

California Dreaming is nice. A bit pricey but very good food. Plus if you have kids, the trains go by.

If you want good SC BBQ, there are a couple places Carolina Wings is pretty good. Carolina Wings & Rib House

Just be aware that SC BBQ is made with a mustard base rather than Tomato or Vinegar.

D's Wings is a great place for wings, again a bit pricey, but good.

And the Flying Saucer has great beer and food, and... well take the fellas.
You are exactly right about Maurice's, I never step foot in that place. What was his brother's name that opened up some places? They split ways because of his racist policies, ate at his joint in Charleston a lot.

I must admit I ate at a Maurice's once without understanding what I was doing....it was easily one of the creepiest places I have ever been. And the food sucked.

The only thing that rivaled that in my life was the Cherokee country club in Knoxville....I felt like I had stepped back into 1950

I did the Cherokee thing too Lex, felt like I was in a scene from Caddy Shack.

That word is thrown around so much that I really did not take you seriously until I googled the man.

All I can say is d*** just d***.

How do ignorant people like that run a business. Who would go there???

That guy had pamphlets in his restaurant that actually said blacks were disappointed to be freed. The Piggy Park in Lexington (or West Columbia) flies the largest Rebel flag I've seen in my life.

I've heard people say it is pretty good BBQ, though. :ermm:

Piggy Park is Maurice's BBQ! It's one in the same thing. Sure, Mr. Bessinger is a card carrying nutjob and has some less than politically correct views, but the BBQ is great. It is a mustard based sauce that is unique to the Midlands of South Carolina. The best new BBQ place in town is Hudson's BBQ. It's about 2 miles from the arena on Knox Abbott Drive. It's excellent!

The convenient thing to do would be to park in the Vista along Gervais Street and scope out the restaurants and see what you like. The Blue Marlin is fantastic, and there's a Longhorn there, too. Here's a link with info on most of the restaurants in the Vista.

Welcome To The Vista on The River - Columbia, S C - G R E A T F O O D

After you eat you can walk to the game.

As for tickets, I would be surprised if you had to pay face value for a ticket. I heard a guy on the radio this week saying that he got 3 tickets for $5 bucks! Of course it was a non-conference game but still.....WOW! Apathy has pretty much set in around here with the basketball program. To say I'm a little bit concerned about the final score tomorrow night would be an understatement.

For all of you who come, Welcome to Columbia! :salute:

California Dreaming... on Assembly St.

Oh my gosh! Ding Ding Ding!! :dance2:I love that restaurant. My favorite restaurant growing up In Charleston. That and Cheesecake Factory my all time favorites!! I have not been to the one in Columbia, but it is all the same. I am lucky they have a sister site here in the Charlotte area with 98% same menu, just different name, same company.

And for the guy that said they were pricey, it is just like any other restaurant, between 10-20 for the majority of their meals and nice proportion sizes!

Nobody was arguing that, were they?
