"WJHL in Bristol reports the Bristol Motor Speedway started installing four massive towers to support the world’s largest center-hung, four-sided screen known as "Colossus."

Cranes were on the property Wednesday, working to raise sections of the tower, according to WJHL. The station reports that the four support towers will eventually rise up to 220 feet."

where will they put the football field at ? to be honest I hated it when they put up the position poles ,I kept *****ing about them being in the way for the race and now there putting in all this,it will be hard to watch the cars make a lap,without all the clutter,let alone a Football game

I still can't figure out how fans are going to be able to watch the game,I know,evidently on a big ass TV screen :)

Thought I understood in a previous story that the towers are placed outside the stadium with cables strung between to support the screen

If you look at the mock up of colossus on several sites, the stansions are outside. The cables (supposedly larger than what is holding the golden gate spans) are supporting the displays over the speedway infield.

Should make the view from the nose bleeds and those a 1/4 mile away a more enjoyable experience.

Yeah, I cant figure out how watching a football game from that far away will be a good thing... A racecar is a lot bigger than a football.

But I've never been to the Bristol motor speedway so I've with-held comment thus far. But it just seems like a bad plan to me. You would have a hard time convincing me to buy a ticket to that game.

Attending this particular game is more about being part of history than it is about being a consumer of the sport of football. Crazy sounding, I know, but true. This is An Event to Remember. The stands will be like one massive block party. You'll have the Colossus (or binoculars) to keep you up to date on the big movements of the contest, like scoring and progress up and down the field. Otherwise, it's going to be more about, not breaking, but shattering the record for most-attended football game in history.

DVR the game and watch it for real a day or two later, when you get home. :good!:

Poles are only temporary until the cables are hung and are in place.

Sat in front of one of the guys that works with the audio at Bristol in Tampa and got a lot of cool info about what all they're doing to the track. Apparently the night after the last race they have an army of dump trucks mobilized to come in and start dumping dirt immediately. Also, apparently the cables holding up the screens are almost the same size as the ones that hold up the Golden Gate Bridge. Can't wait for next September.

I've been to several races at BMS. While there is space between the stands and the field (the racing surface) the seating will have you looking down on the action. Comparable to sitting in the back of the upper deck in Neyland. From my experience I would rather be higher up than lower down. the folks on the first few rows will have very poor sightlines.

WJHL is located in Johnson City, but they purport to cover the tri-cities area (JC, Kingsport, Bristol).

Live in Bristol close to BMS. Been to many races. Our seats are always halfway from the track and the top so basically in the middle if looking vertically. I know during pre race ceremony's the people are near impossible to see. Binoculars will help but plan on being in the crowd and watching the new video screens. Pride of the Southland has marched on the front stretch and sounded like they were 2 miles away. Going to be a huge event though!

I've been there. It's like a huge Neyland. It's a cool scene as its tucked in a valley but no way I'm driving up from ATL to watch. You need to get seats around level 40 to see all the action. Too close to the track will be bad seats.

Is it just me or does the screen seem a little low in the depiction? I'm thinking punters may hit it like hitting the AT&T Stadium one.
