I figured some of you guys could help me out, because a lot of you seem like the college age/past it/..etc

Really, I have about no clue what I'm doing. I'm looking to get into pharmacy and I should be able to get into a decent school with a 3.7 GPA and a 30 on the ACT.

Any advice for schools, places to get scholarships, ..etc? if it matters, I'd prefer to stay in Tennessee, but I'd be willing to go anywhere within about a 10 to 12 hour drive of Knoxville.

Thanks in advance guys.

Oh figures I leave that out. Knoxville.

Don't know much about Pharmacy schools, but your within that drive of a lot or very good schools. Don't know how strong that 3.7 or the ACT score is. I'd take the SAT if I were you, then I'd put in at Wake, Davidson, UVA, UNC, UT, Vandy, W&M. Then, given your career choice, I'd go to UT and find a good mix between work and play.

Yeah, I'm thinking about Tennessee as well. Just how big it is kinda turns me off though. I was just looking for some ideas from you guys about it all.

I'd say 30 is pretty good, myself...Vandy is probably the best of the schools BPV mentioned, though I think I saw you saying somewhere that you wanted to go there so you probably already know that. I remember you saying it'd be hard to pay for, and that's the thing: usually if you don't go to a huge school, and go to a smaller private one (like Vandy) instead, it's more expensive. But I would definitely apply there because a lot of those schools are able to meet 100% of demonstrated need for financial aid. FAFSA forms take your family income and expenses into account and come up with a figure that you should be able to pay. At a school like Vandy (I think Vandy does this; I know others do) the school will simply pay for the rest. So if you really like it, that's where I would apply first. And spend a ton of time on essays; that's where you separate yourself.

That's all I got for now, I think.

Yeah, I was thinking about Vandy, because it seems like one of the better schools around and it's not too far away.

I'm really open to just about anything though. Thanks for the advice though guys. I'll try to check all of them out.

Nobody in their right mind takes Vandy over UVA, UNC or Davidson. It would be easier to get into Vandy than any of those if that helps.

You wanna stay close and go to a great school, give W&L a swing. Best connections in the world, but all your classmates will be rich.

Yeah I forgot about Davidson. That's a great school. I'd put Vandy up against the other two though, and I would imagine that Vandy is smaller given that the other two are public.

It is smaller, but not near the school. In fact, getting in will be much easier than either of those state schools as an out of state applicant.

W&L=Washington and Lee? I've gotten some stuff from them, and me and a friend decided we're probably gonna go look around up there.

That's it. Warning that everyone is essentially loaded. Good school, better connections.

Didn't see it. I think Vandy is solid, but overpriced and massively overrated. In fact, our outift quit recruiting undergrads from Vandy while I was there.

I figured it was a good school when I found out one of the scholarships averages like a 4.3 GPA and a 35 on the ACT.

If I get accepted there, and get some decent cash for it, I'd probably go there if Lexington seems alright.

Davidson is a tiny school if that is what he is looking for, but if he is concerned about mulah, stay away, it's a private school 34k without room and board and meals.

With W&L's 17% acceptance rate, why not just apply to Duke BPV? Am I missing something?

Lexington is little more than W&L and VMI. W&L is a good school but not unbelievable. It is the best there is for connections. I actually believe it boasts more fortune 500 CEOs than any other undergrad school.

Washington and Lee would be a great school. ETSU's pharmacy school is relatively new, doubt you'd get any connections from there.

The ACT has gained a ton of acceptance over the past 15 years and with a 30 you should get in just about anywhere. Getting schollies could be different though.

That's right. Top tier schools ain't pumping out scholliew for ACT scores. Hell, W&L doesn't give them out for much of anything.

a lot of schools would pump out some cash for a 30. Milligan gave me a full Milligan ride (read that as a 1/2) for my 31. Milligan is tiny but always gets huge raves in college ratings.

A school like W&L would probably want a 32 or more though.
