2001 canes is the most dominate team I've ever seen. Attended UT 00-04 and watched the canes dismantle a good Tennessee team at home. Think if I remember correctly we lost 26-3.

We got smoked. Cedric Houston broke off a huge run inside the 5 on the first play of the game and we kicked a FG and that was it. I’m pretty sure Miami could’ve scored 50 if they felt like it.

I’m pretty sure that was homecoming too. I almost got into a fight at Hannah’s on the Strip with these idiots from south Florida because they asked my girlfriend to show them her boobs. Not a good day.

South Florida and Boobs are like peanut butter and jelly. Cannot have one without the other.

I think this is Anti-Tennessee bias:shakehead: I think the 1998 Tennessee team would have beaten the 1999 FSU team.

ugh, no.

UT 98 is much better than this crappy ranking though.

How was the Miami team not #1? Proves the ranking is crap.

I would add the 95 squad too. We were a second half meltdown away from an undefeated season.

Damn I hate the gators with an undying passion.

Yeah, but to be fair, then we would have been the team getting humiliated in all those Tommy Frazier highlights.

Or...you can look at it as they thought she was hot enough to want to take a look. :)

That would have been in 2002. I’m not sure how “good” we were considered that year with the way the season played out.

Agreed. Ton of good fortune and the ball bouncing our way. Very, very good hard-nosed team with great leadership that never quit and capitalized on about every break they got throughout the year, which is a sign of an outstanding team. But the 1998 team was by no means a dominant team. Have no idea where they should rank, but I’d guess in the lower half probably makes more sense than the upper half.

I think that team had like 38 guys drated, 17 of the 22 starters drated, 11 first round picks....loaded

Just heard it on the radio on lunch so those numbers could be wrong

It's interesting to think about the teams who just missed out on this list. Had LSU won the rematch in 2011, I'd have to think they're top 10. 2005 USC was also absurdly good.

The 38 number is accurate. Their two-deep from that season was remarkable. I will say though, that people tend to forget how good the 2000 Miami squad was. Their roster was basically the core of the 2001 team, plus Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne, Dan Morgan, Damione Lewis, and Al Blades.

18. 1998 Tennessee Volunteers

The Vols followed up their SEC championship in 1997 with their first national championship in nearly a half century a year later and did so on the heels of having the greatest quarterback in school history, Peyton Manning, depart for the NFL. Tennessee went unbeaten and became the first national champion of the BCS era. The Vols beat eight bowl teams that season and four nationally ranked teams away from home. But their breakthrough win came in the third week of the season in a 20-17 overtime win at home against Florida, which had beaten Tennessee five straight times. The Vols' defense was led by fiery All-America linebacker Al Wilson, the centerpiece of a unit that held 10 of its 13 opponents under 20 points that season, including seven of the nine SEC foes the Vols faced. There were 26 players who played during the 1998 season for Tennessee who would go on to be selected in the NFL draft, including nine of the 11 defensive starters. -- Low

Thoughts?

4 road wins against ranked teams gets you 18th? Interesting take on things. If a Big 10 team did that they would have made them #1.
