College Football Busts

good point here

average tuition plus room and board runs $6,960 per year at a public college. Take that and add free textbooks and access to tutors that an athletic scholarship affords a player and he is given roughly $39,800 based on his high school football resume. How many 19-year-old waiters, construction workers, etc. dream of a college education but just flat out can’t afford it?

not to mention the perks that regular students don't get.

Funny stuff but until Crompton steals $18,000 (and other valuables) from a family that was trying to help him out & winds up in jail over it he's not #1 here either....

phillip fulmer spent 34 years at tennessee as a player and coach. As head coach, he compiled a record of 152-52, won 2 sec championships and 1 national championship. Crompton got this man fired. Rated the #2 qb of his class, crompton had offers from usc, miami, ga, etc. Rode the pine for the vols until their only other options at qb were a true freshman and a girl. Turns out that one and done o.c. Dave clawsen wasn’t so much of an idiot as he was dealing with a qb whose game equipment should include a red rubber nose and floppy oversized shoes. The only cheers crompton will ever hear from the vol faithful will be on senior day when they know he is about to throw the last 4 picks of his career.

Damn, somebody has figured out that we don't have a good quarterback. Were really in trouble now.

Crompton's the only one whose bust seems to be totally related to his on the field play. The other's have either behavior problems or mother behavior problems.

I wouldn't say he got Fulmer fired. Stephens was the starter when Phil got the official axe.

Crompton is bad, but what about Xavier Lee and Rhett Bomar? Two guys that were 5* recruits in 2004 that never amounted to anything. Lee couldn't control the offense even though he is an incredible athlete and may be a lot of the reason Rouse made this list. Bomar looked amazing as a freshmen then got in trouble and headed to the Sam Houston. Bomar did get drafted in the 5th, but think of the potential he had to be a top pick.

And I can't believe I forgot to mention Whitney Lewis from USC. He was the first player in California HS Football to rush and receive for 1,000 yards in one season. The guy was amazing, and signed to be the next big thing at USC. However, some guy named Reggie Bush took all his playing time and I haven't heard about him since. Maybe he is pumping gas in South Carolina?
