and nobody has ever seen him win a rep at Tackle. Ever.

Not trying to knock him bc i think hes a good interior player. Really trying to defend him bc hes not getting used right. He gets abused worse than anybody on the roster at Tackle. Its actually pretty clear to see. Whether it be a minute video, spring game, open practice or primetime on ABC against Oklahoma.

maybe sometimes people are right.

Riddle me this. If he is the worst OL to play OT on the roster, why does Butch have him there? Is Butch trying to lose games? I think, well, probably not. But what do I know? I'm not an OL expert like some are on VN.

There was even this one guy that said Jumper wasn't SEC caliber.

Can't remember who said it this off-season, but some reporter mentioned how there isn't as big of a drop-off between starters and walk-ons now. Basically saying Jones has been recruiting both well. Walk-ons are important even if they don't play in games in that they help the team prepare. The reporter said that you can't watch the team practice and point out every walk-on.

He is accustomed to playing center. He has had success at center most of his football playing career.

But he has the body and most importantly the athleticism of a tackle which is hard to find.
Anybody will look like crap if they don't know what they are doing, also from a physical standpoint he isn;t where you want him to be, yet. He has gotten better.

Jones is trying to create competition with limited talented/experienced bodies to make them better.
Thomas will be better...

Wait....so is he physically suited to play OT or not? Because you sorta contradicted yourself there.

I find it absolutely amazing how so many people disregard someone's opinion on the basis that said person is not a coach. This makes no sense. I mean, I'm not a coach, but I've been a fan my entire life and have seen a lot of football. I do have some idea what I'm talking about, even though I am not coaching the game. I imagine the same can be said for most everyone here. It's silly to dismiss any "non-coach" opinion on that basis alone.

I doubt there are many here who had a professional cook as a mother, but I'm certain you still trusted her opinion on if food had been properly cooked or not. Similarly, not everyone here is a doctor, and yet most still know that blood on the outside of the body is a bad thing. Being a professional in a certain field does not give you carte blanche over all knowledge related to that field. I just really don't understand this line of reasoning. It's everywhere here, not just about this Coleman Thomas topic. Basically every discussion devolves into a rant about letting the coaches do whatever they want and how dare anyone disagree. It's insanity.

Carry on, now. I'll check back later to find out why I'm stupid.

After the Dooley era, I will not be told that we aren't allowed to ask questions, ever-ever again.:pinch:

Don't forget Jalen in the backfield. He has the size, weight, and attitude to clean up a missed block. Dobbs has the legs to make up for a missed block as well. Our line doesn't have to be great. They all cant miss at once, but 1 at a time and we are fine.

I don't understand why it's "amazing". People are obviously basing opinions off of an entire season and the few clips. They are at best in "wait and see" mode.
Anyone that just says "well, I heard it's better, good enough for me", I have all kinds of things I'll let go at great prices :)

an entire season that saw him thrown in the fire as a true freshmn never playing offensive tackle in his life. I bet alot of guys who ended up being good players that had a chance to learn before being thrown in the fire wouldve looked bad to

I was at the open practice. Watched him lose a handful of reps badly, including the Kahlil rep. I've also posted that I'm choosing to trust the coaches because they're the experts, not me. Hoping he's truly made great progress...we need him to be solid.

I hope so to. I havent been to practices but I trust the coaches see something in him. Even the best get bet in practices time to time so Im just not ready to bash him on a couple bad practice clips

According to some, he moved back to OT because he couldn't handle the mental part of being a C.

I've seen this mentioned quite a bit by numerous people. He was given a bunch of reps at center all the way back to the bowl practices to see if he could unseat Crowder. He didn't/hasn't.

But it doesn't fit the narrative so we'll ignore it.

Richmond also has the athlelticism to play OT
yet he is not physically where you want him to be for the SEC grind.

Same thing goes with Thomas. Thomas needed a red-shirt last year even more than Richmond does this year.
1) to learn the position
2) To get physically stronger.

How many posts did you have defending Sal Sunseri defensive evaluations and schemes?

Seems like we did pretty well starting Tiny, JuJuan James and several others as freshmen. If the freshmen can play put them in. If Bowling Green defenders even get close enough to smell Dobbs we will know we have issues.

Come on KB, not you too. You're smarter than that.

I just saw the kid get beaten more than once last Saturday at the open practice Rasta. Obviously, the most high profile rep was vs Kahlil. Just believe that kid is playing out position. Would be like Dobbs playing tightend....it wouldn't end well.

Poor kid was put in a bad position and was a human turnstile at OT last year....then I see with my own eyes him get plowed by KMac a year later, along with some other poor reps, and it doesn't inspire confidence. That's all I'm saying. If that lowers my IQ then so be it.

Tiny wasn't a true freshman

In KB's defense, I think he was very measured in his "doubts". The coaches are better informed and qualified than we are. At least 98% of the time, they're absolutely right and we're wrong... but there is that 2 or so percent.

I hope Thomas does great and embarrasses all of us who have questioned him.

Of course coaches can be wrong, but they see these kids everyday. I would bet that us critics would probably come to the same conclusions the coaches do if we saw them everyday instead of basing conclusions on information we see here and elsewhere.

However, I really don't know if Thomas is up to the task or not. Based on last year, I would really question if he is. But that is based on last year and the coaching staff has re-evaluated everyone's improvements over the off season.

I recall how excited I, the coaches and most everyone was hyping Blair to be the next great tackle. We are still waiting.

If in fact he isn't as good, my speculation is simply that Jones has a blind spot to Thomas. No one is so perfect that this doesn't happen to them.

I'm not calling Thomas all SEC, I just find it comical that people base an opinion on a rep or a viewing of an open practice.

It's the same to me when everyone wrote off Josh Smith his freshmen year.

As far as getting embarrassed by K Mac I think that club is going to expand to quite a few more members.

Ps: not calling you "comical" KB. I'll save that for the Florida game. =)

I kid.
