Coleman put ego before Vols

It kinda seems like Kiffin is using 09 as a throw away season. He thinks we're gonna suck anyway, so why not play the worst quarterback, who is a senior, to assure qb scouts of instant playing time? Coleman is superior to Crompton or Stephens especially when it pertains to football between the ears. We are going to be worse off without BJ.

Hey, someone with deductive reasoning on this board. Thank God I'm not the only one here with an IQ above 100.

I was told by a very good source out of Chattanooga this morning that BJ met with Kiffin earlier this week and was told he still had a chance to win the starting position this fall. However, Kiffin did tell BJ that he was going to sign a highly rated QB in the 2009 recruiting class to be the future at UT.

This is my favorite quote...

“I didn’t just quit. I didn’t just walk out. But I’m going to be taking a huge risk of losing another year of eligibility if I stay. I just want to play ball. This is my home-state school, and I know I can lead the team better than the other two guys.”

All 3 win the same amount of games because the running game is more important than what any of them will do passing the ball. Hell, Stephens is probably the most set-up because of BJ leaving. Say we do get a Heaps or Scroggins. We play at Oregon, UF, at LSU, at Georgia and Alabama to start the season. I don't think a freshman will start until halfway into that or we're in trouble.

"Coleman's exit assures senior Jonathan Crompton of the starting quarterback position. The only other options are junior Nick Stephens, who missed much of spring with a broken wrist, and former minor league pitcher Mike Rozier, who is eschewing the Red Sox organization for Vols football.

But to the surprise of no one, except perhaps Coleman and his family, Crompton already was penciled in as the Vols' No. 1 quarterback. He held that spot through spring practice and nothing happened in the Orange & White Game on Saturday to change things.

While Kiffin never made it official, the sense within the UT program is that Crompton is by far the best fit for this offensive system."

if he's doing that then he needs to give back his salary for the year. And the coaches obviously did not see the competition the same way you do

I like this one too...

“I gave it everything I had. I couldn’t have had a better spring or made it more obvious to them that I was their guy. I proved it on the field and off. The scrimmages, to me, are how you grade if a kid can handle the atmosphere and the pressure. I’ve given them every reason to play me.”

A player comes to you seeking advice. You put him off until the next day. He shows up the next day. You try to put him off until monday. He says..'this can't wait that long'.. You get pissed at the kid.

Not the actions of a coach who wants his player to stay if you ask me.

I think what the article stated was that Kiffin told him they would go back and evaluate the film from the spring practices.
Coleman met briefly Wednesday morning with Kiffin and quarterbacks coach David Reaves to discuss his future and to ask for an assurance that his spring performance had earned him a chance for more repetitions with the first-team offense. According to Coleman, Kiffin rescheduled the meeting for noon Thursday to allow the coach another day to evaluate video from this spring’s 12 practice sessions and three game-situation scrimmages.

When Coleman arrived for the Thursday meeting with Kiffin, he was told the meeting would need to be rescheduled for Monday.

After meeting with athletic director Mike Hamilton and the UT compliance office, Coleman returned to Kiffin’s office later Thursday afternoon to inform the coach of his decision to leave. According to Coleman, Kiffin became agitated.

I see nothing wrong with the coach telling him the meeting needed to be rescheduled for Monday. But then BJ apparently goes over the coaches head and goes to Mike Hamilton and a compliance officer, which to me he should not have done. I don't blame CLK for becoming agitated. I would have too. BJ could at least waited until Monday to see what the coaches had to say, and then make his decision.
I say :wavey:

Are you dense enough to think that Jake Heaps is afraid to compete with B.J. Coleman, especially after Kiffin said that freshmen would have every opportunity to play right away?

Not when Kiffin has already decided that the next classes QB will be the starter.

And this is the one that really throws Kiffin under the bus:

“It’s been frustrating to hear Coach Kiffin talk about how the quarterbacks have struggled so much this spring when I knew I didn’t. It seemed like, for Coach Kiffin, the day was based on how Jonathan does.”

I was wondering if any of ya'll have heard this. A Bama fan i work with said that Coleman went and talked to Fulmer about what he should do. Fulmer supposedly told him that he thought Coleman should transfer to Duke and play for Cut. Word is that Kiffin is p.o. about this
Are you familiar with the term "grain of salt"?

In this case...

Based on "will to win", I'd rather have Coleman on my team than that lump of coal Crompton. Maybe Kiffin can pound it into a diamond, but I doubt it.

Based on stats, I'd rather have Coleman that "worm killer" Crompton.

Too bad Coleman threw in the towel. I really believe he would have been the starter sooner rather than later. Now our season rests on Crompton - great.

You don't want to talk about IQ...trust me. But do you really think our head coach is throwing the season by picking a better QB over a worse one? You sure about that?

superior will to win and then he quits? Yeah that makes sense

Link? Sounds to me like that bitter Nashville guy who's all over Crompton's jock. There was zero separation in the QB battle. Anyone with half a football brain can see that.

Yep, that must be it. The staff has already thrown in the towel for this season. They are just going through the motions and running off the best players. I heard from a bama fan that EB was going to transfer too.

Exactly. Why is it so hard for people to grasp this. "Hand it to him"......."Earn it"....blah blah. Doesnt make any difference how you want to phrase it. Kiffin will say he earned it and will put "his" QB out there to be the future of his team with his signature on it. Coleman knew he was going to be behind the new freshman QB in the perception of his coach. That is the reality that Coleman realized. And he made the decision that it was not in his best interest to be in that scenario.

Handing it to him and earning it are two completely different things. Sounds to me like you are calling Kiffin a liar.

I think the important thing to remember is that TWO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT COACHING STAFFS decided that BJ wasn't the guy. Does this not make a pretty clear statement about his talent and leadership abilities?

Which is why Crompton was on the first team pretty much EVERY time...
