THE GUY MADE A FEW MISTAKES. Geez, man. I understand that you are just stating your opinion, but when you say things like "he's a bum", you're asking for a fight. What is this, "on the waterfront"? I am keeping up with him because I do genuinely hope he matures and gets his act together. To write a guy off because of decisions he made when he was a teenager is cruel. Do I need to go through a list of successful people who made mistakes when they were teenagers?

Also, I take your opinion as a personal affront. I had a scholarship (not an athletic one, mind you, an academic one) to UT coming out of high school. I've been a UT fan all of my life, and it was my dream to study there. But I made a few mistakes, made some unwise decisions, and flunked out with semester GPA's of 1.6 and 0.00. I had to run with my tail between my legs to my local community college. But when I talk to the friends that I made during that year, they still genuinely care about me. I'm sure glad that they don't think of me as a bum.

Also, I'd like to hear your thoughts on D Morely. Did you think he was a bum last year? Do you think he's a bum now? Or are you only going to support him if he intercepts 6 passes this year and runs 2 of them back for TD's?

I never want to see a kid end up in trouble with the law, end up addicted to drugs, or end up in a life of crime. If booting him off the Vols football team is what it took to make a light go off in LaMarcus Coker's head and turn him away from a dim future, then it was a positive.

I don't give a damn what Coker does on the field at another school. In fact, I didn't care what he did on the field here either*. Every single one of these players at every single college is going to be a member of society for a LOT longer than they will play sports.

*I don't care who does well or who does what, as long as I see an orange and white celebration after the game.

Agreed. He did need to turn his life around. Why he couldn't do it at one of the best football schools in the country after he had MULTIPLE chances and opportunities?? That should make you NOT want to root for him...his loyalty and dedication to YOUR beloved school was not there. Why should you care about him??

these athletes take things for granted when they have everything handed to them their whole life and sometimes it takes things like this for them to realize they need to change their life. I think everyone who calls themself a Vol fan should root for him to turn his life around.

Seriously?? Are you guys keeping track of and rooting for this guy?? I am all for rooting for former Vols on other teams, but this guy could have helped out team greatly and instead disappointed us all by not abiding by the rules. This guy is not worth wasting our breath (or fingers in this case) on. He deserves what he gets. Let's not give him any attention that he doesn't deserve.

classy....

I am really interested if LC makes it. He was a fun back to watch & I hope he beats the comp. real good. I hope he has kicked this junk & gets back on his feet. Post any info you see on him!!!! Go Coker!

Lamarcus Coker made some bad choices that he understands now. He's a Tennesee boy and he's trying to get a fresh start and change his life. You don't know the circumstances of his dismissal. Did it occur to you that he might have an addiction problem? Bashing former players is classless, regardless of the issues they had.

As others have said, nobody would give a crap if the intrigue of "what could have been" wasn't involved.

Nobody gives a damn about whether he's "addicted" to anything or not -- the reason we care is because we want to know if he's lighting it up or not.

Spare me the "you should root for former Vols" or "He made some mistakes, guys!"

He got kicked off the team -- that happens sometimes. We check up on him because we want to see how awesome he could have been at UT.

Should I "root" for Slick Shelley??? Hell no. That guy quit the team. Coker did even worse, he got KICKED OFF the team.

Because he is a human being. What do you do that is so great for UT football? Should I root against you in life? You are wasting my breath just as much if not more. Get over yourself. He is a person that played football and wasn't mature enough to handle it yet. What have you done?

Eh, smoke some weed, don't bother anyone, fail some drug test vs. 5 Alcohol related incidents summed up with a hit and run and DUI.

I'm sure when Colquitt booms a 50 yard punt in Athens this year you'll cross your arms in detest.

You're just as bad as the other "d-bag." As Hat would say, where's that iggy button? You couldn't possibly be that uncompassionate about a 20 year old kid and refer to him like he's some discarded last piece of meat that you couldn't stuff into that blathering hole. Unfreakin real.......

"In The Jimmy Streater Story, a 1999 biography by Chris Cawood, Streater recounts how he became addicted to cocaine shortly after his career in the Canadian Football League ended. The drug problems led to crimes of petty theft as he tried to support his habit, according to the book."

I guess that makes him a bum, too.

Ok, well can anyone tell us how he actually did in the game? I'd like to know.

Coker screwed up and reaped the reward for his actions. Since he is no longer a member of the team, do we still have a right to be angry with him?

I say no. The tickets you buy, the donations you make, and the time you spend no longer benefit LaMarcus Coker. What's passed is in the past, which puts Coker in the past.

Let's just hope he's learned from his mistakes. I hope he does well for his team, but I am not a fan of Hampton; I am a Vol fan, and LaMarcus Coker is no longer a Vol.

All I can say is he opitimised the complete opposite of "I will give my all for Tennessee, today." So therefore I do not have any respect for him. Do I hate him? No, but he really is of no concern of mine as of right now...
