Have not seen any discussion on the Coker intentional grounding no-call. I did not get to see the replay, so maybe there was an explanation. Did I miss something? If there is a link please add to this, or a previous thread, please merge.

About the only logical explanation I could come up with was it was against Alabama.

Yea - I don't think you missed anything - the refs on the other hand missed something or were affected by Tuscaloosa bagman syndrome. :) Were that Dobbs or anyone else on the opposing team that would have been called intentional grounding imo.

It wasn't grounding because he was already down. By rule, all sacks against bama return the ball to the original LOS

I don't have the replay but thought his knee was clearly down.

Bama got their usual home cooking throughout the game, not that it directly affected the outcome of the game though.

Does anyone have their stats on holding penalties this century? What are they up to now? Two??

Could be wrong...but I don't believe he was out of the tackle box(had retreated several yards backwards and slightly to the right side of the offense...maybe 3-4 yards) and then threw the ball into the ground about 5 yards forward(maybe). Wish I could see a replay?

It was thrown right beside Kenyon Drake outside the box. Now he may have been down by contact, but there was no grounding...

I was there and live can be hard at times, but I thought I remembered them saying there was a receiver in the area (guessing a RB).

When Coker threw the pass, he was outside the box and the pass did not reach the line of scrimmage, however, I think, if you review the play again, you will see a running back in the "general vicinity" of the throw.

If its the play I'm thinking about, he was outside the box, the ball didn't make it back to the line of scrimmage but they did have a receiver close. So I assumed that why their wasn't a call there.

The missed call that still erks me is the missed holding call. The Bammer olineman probably has two pieces of Barnett's jersey for a souvenir. It was as blatent a missed hold as I've seen in a while.

From my seat in the stands, I thought it had to be grounding... When I got home and watched the DVR recording, Drake was within 10 ft of the pass. It was going to be a swing pass that JRM or Kirkland picked up on and destroyed the entire play. Coker could do nothing but throw it away or eat it...

There was a bad call against Sutton, but on the other hand they missed a terrible one against Martin. I thought it was intentional grounding even though Drake was there. He didn't know he was there and was simply slamming the ball.

I'm sure you guys are correct, but would still like to see the replay if anyone can point me in the right direction. Thanks!

There were several bad calls both ways. Hell of a game. We came up short. And next year we take down Florida and Alabama in Knoxville amongst 100,000 of our closest party friends. Next year we go to the playoffs.

I remember watching the replay and thinking that the RB had actually slid backwards and was standing behind or lateral to Coker when he threw the ball forward. No one close enough not to be grounding IMO.
