Cofer to ask for release per KNS

I was really surprised that Cofer decided not to come. I thought he liked Tennessee. It is not about who is the coach of the team it is about being at Tennessee being a Vol. His Dad played here they are family and it is sad to see him go. The style of play of CDT actually fits Cofer better than what Martin was doing.
Were Tennessee we'll move on still a sad day to see a legacy player decide against Tennessee.

I think this is probably true by the time you graduate, but when you're 17 or 18, it's the coach. One of my kids played college sports, could have gone anywhere, and it came down to the coach at the end.

I hope Cofer is willing to be re-recruited by UT. Don't know if that's in the cards on either side though. :ermm:

Speaks to the relationship they had with CCM and perhaps not liking the way things transpired in the media and with a segment of the Fan Base. Do wish CDT the best in recruiting. Bring on the JUCO's, dayum!
The players should have played like they were capable of ALL year. And Martin should have coached the entire seasons he was here and not just the last 3rd of each.

Martin left because he would most likely WOULD NOT HAVE come close to matching his 1st 3 years here. AND he knew that a strong majority of the folks would never feel strongly for him the way that Pearl was loved by a great many. It would have made me more determined to prove the naysayers but he made his decision for him and his family. God bless.

Coach T wanted the job. I am so glad that he is here. He will bring some serious excitement to the gym. Been more like church the past few years. Style of play will allow them to scrape and claw next year. The team will be loved by the fans. Record will not be as good but the effort and intensity will be back.

I hope Mike (my brother and I went to Rule with him and his brothers, playing on teams with Mike and David, so I feel fine calling him Mike) stresses the importance TO HIS SON of following through on his commitment to the Vols and encourages to stand by his word to the school.

The sun came out this morning and the sky isn't falling. At least 3 BB coaches in 5 years is better than 4 FB coaches in 5 years.

Go Vols!!!

Dude if you don't think that media saying that TN is racist may have had a hand in running these guys off you are totally clueless and need a real dose of reality. A black coach who took us to the sweat sixteen didn't feel appreciated. No matter how you see it the whole situation had a vibe of racism playing a part.

So if you don't think a black kid and his black family wouldn't pay any attention to that in this day and age you are living under a rock and in denial that racism still exists.

CDT statement about thugs has also came off wrong.

It doesn't matter if what has was meant to be racist if a party take it as such it is racist my friend.

This whole frame of mind is nothing more than a weak cop out. YOU and others who choose to play the race card are the ones in denial. Let's stick to the facts pal. It's about basketball at Tennessee and that's it. In that regard, Martin was mediocre at best. Those kids could be green or blue, the basketball facts remain the same. I refuse to enter the race arena with this situation and quite frankly your comments just made me throw up in my mouth.

Skylar McBee says hello.

Camron Justice (former 2015 recruit also says hello)

Unless they are albino my friend they are both white. You ever thought those black kid may feel more comfortable with a person that look like them and has similar experiences as them? Also don't act like you was done unjust cause you were a white pg. You probably just was't that good.

What a complete joke!!!!!

I guess black kids don't wanna play for Pitino, Coach K, Marshall, Sean or Archie Miller, Donovan, Jay Wright, Calipari, Pearl, Roy Wiiliams, Bill Self, Thad Matta, and on and on and on.

Again, skin color has nothing to do with it. Perhaps it's your bias and personal racism which is tainting your opinion. Get real.

Sure. Why not. The label is tossed around like buttermilk biscuits (racist?) without issue so lets just do it as much as we can

Exactly. And on that note, just how many white guys did Cuonzo have on his team this past year? 0. Hell, even the walk ons where black. How many staff members did he have that weren't black? 1, I believe. Cuonzo has some explaining to do.

Russell Smith on his radio show yesterday said he had talked to a couple people that are close to Martin and it was ALL him feeling that the administration didn't really back him like they should. No mention of the P word or racism or any of that stuff.

I'm a Golden Bear myself. Class of 88. I remember Mike coming to school and talking to us. I followed his career and always looked up to him. He worked hard and did the right things. I'm sure he has instilled the same values in his son. I hope he give the new coach a chance and ends up a Vol. If he doesn't I will still support him and wish him nothing but the best.

This. You're either a VFL or you're not. There is no middle ground. I can only hope that he is truly wanting to allow CDT to re-recruit him before he makes a final decision.

I also understand the need to get a release as it allows him the opportunity to listen to other schools in case he and CDT do not hit it off. We really cannot blame any of these kids for that. Here's to hoping that CDT can RE-close the deal!!!

People need to understand this.

Plus, it's the classy thing to do for the university to grant a release if the kid doesn't want to play here. When coaching changes happen after recruits are signed, that's really pulling the rug from under the feet. IMO they should get the option for an automatic release if a coaching change occurs after they're signed.

You are a youngster :) I graduated in '74 and my brother in '78. Herm (as we all called him because of his size) played football for my dad when he was younger. It breaks my heart everyday what he has to fight through.

If these recruits would give Coach T a chance, they would/could be part a something great at UT.

I laugh at this racism chatter on here. I was always the only white starter on most of my teams. The stuff that I got called by the fans from other schools and players was laughable. Many white folks/fans hated on me because I was a white kid playing with black kids. Many black folks/fans (A-E fans especially) because I would occasionally show up their teams and never backed down from anybody.

In college, it was never quite as bad. The whole black / white thing is completely overblown. It is tiring. Whites can be racist and blacks can be racist. I moved past worrying about that decades ago.

Coach Martin is a good man....he just didn't seem to enjoy UT. Hope he is happy in Cal.

Hope little Cofer decides to come to UT, he will be loved here like no other place that he can go. His dad's smile can light up a room like no other. And I would bet that he would love for his kid to play here over any other place. And he would definitely be smiling about it.

Cofer and dad seems to be great folks. Hope he comes to UT. However, "forgiveness" is an acquired skill not easily mastered. Did not CMajors refer to certain fans as "legions of the miserable"?

Recruited the heck out of Austin Nichols who decided to stay in Memphis.

Slim chance you retain 5/5 recruits in the midst of a coaching change.

Very true. When Calipari left Memphis look at what happen there. People need to understand recruits develop a relationship with the coaches recruiting them. The love of school is always secondary if ever.

His recruits were already under his payroll contract so they followed him.
