Cofer to ask for release per KNS

I don't think CDT has been to see Cofer or Turman yet. He was going to try to see them today but their schedules wouldn't allow it. I think it may be tomorrow or the weekend before he gets there.

Dang! Says he has not completely ruled out UT though.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure asking for his release is pretty much ruling Tennessee out. Unbelievable. Twas only a few days ago when he tweeted out this......

“@LifeisDeep_: Every time I think about any other college, it doesn't feel right....Tennessee is my home man.” This tweet >>>> #VFL

I highly doubt he will be granted the release without being required to meet with CDT face to face first. CDT will get the chance to try and convince him to stay IMO.

Why not? They granted release on the others. If you don't grant him his release, he'll never come to UT.

It was posted on here after my post, that CDT met with Cofer and his family earlier today. I have not seen where anyone has been able to confirm whether the meeting was BEFORE or AFTER the release request was made. However, I have read where Cofer said TN was not out of the running, but they would need to re recruit him which makes perfect sense. CDT also said he wants to meet with Turman (who is on spring break), and his parents face to face. He did not do this in regards to the other 2 recruits which should tell you, he believes he can upgrade be it this year or next.

Anyone shocked these kids are asking for a release didn't play college sports, 99% of the time you commit to a coach. Playing for a coach you like is 10000 times better than one you hate. If my coaches would've bailed before I enrolled, I would've opened up my commitment too. You have to make an informed decision when it's this life changing.

If basketball recruiting abides by the same rules as football, that's not entirely true; a player isn't actually signed/enrolled until his 1st appearance in a class... and can back out without penalty until that time.

There have been a half dozen or so cases in recent years where players who'd signed an NLI, but not yet attended a class, backed out of their pledge with no conditions or consequences.

Schools cannot contact a player who has signed an LOI, which is the main point, which means he cannot be recruited (legally) by other schools while under the conditions of the LOI. Thus why you ask for a release.

So what do you want Him to do. We have a football coach that will get the team back toward the top. We have a new basketball coach because so called fans ran the other one off. Baseball is improving. Sad that you do not understand that.

Get over yourself already. The UT fans didn't run off anybody. You speak as though CCM's checks didn't clear the bank, his windows were broken, and he was chased to Cal. His agent got him out while the gettin' was good.

We're better off for it, too.

Exactly, no one with common sense would want to play for a total stranger. If Cofer gives TN the same opportunity to re recruit him as he does other schools, I like our chances. In fact, if he and CDT can build trust in a short amount of time, I think we are the favorites.

God I hope recruits don't see comments like this.

Let's face it. I've never heard "It's basketball time in TN".... and we hire along those lines and perhaps that's the right approach.

if he doesn't want to be in orange and play for the greatest school in the world, more power to him. Take your stuff somewhere else. We only want kids that love UT and love being on campus. F The rest!!!

He has to do what's best for him at the end of the day. He and his parent don't know CDT. I wouldn't tell anyone to blindly follow a coach they would be stupid to do so.

Dude if you don't think that media saying that TN is racist may have had a hand in running these guys off you are totally clueless and need a real dose of reality. A black coach who took us to the sweat sixteen didn't feel appreciated. No matter how you see it the whole situation had a vibe of racism playing a part.

So if you don't think a black kid and his black family wouldn't pay any attention to that in this day and age you are living under a rock and in denial that racism still exists.

CDT statement about thugs has also came off wrong.

It doesn't matter if what has was meant to be racist if a party take it as such it is racist my friend.

you guys talking about race have no freaking idea how many black kids and families will only play for a black coach. Or do I need to go into a black college discussion? If you want to open up a race dialogue and basketball, let's move it to the politics forum so I can begin a lesson.
As a white pg in the 80's in Memphis who played in every gym and park around, I could've used some help from Jesse Jackson myself.
If we are going full ahead racism talk, let's go. And let's start with Martin having no white players or coaches while he was here.

I was really surprised that Cofer decided not to come. I thought he liked Tennessee. It is not about who is the coach of the team it is about being at Tennessee being a Vol. His Dad played here they are family and it is sad to see him go. The style of play of CDT actually fits Cofer better than what Martin was doing.
Were Tennessee we'll move on still a sad day to see a legacy player decide against Tennessee.

Skylar McBee says hello.

Camron Justice (former 2015 recruit also says hello)

Unless they are albino my friend they are both white. You ever thought those black kid may feel more comfortable with a person that look like them and has similar experiences as them? Also don't act like you was done unjust cause you were a white pg. You probably just was't that good.

Skylar was Pearl's recruit and Justice decommited. And yes, I do think some would rather play for a black coach than a white coach, and I have no problem with it. Switch it though, and it's blatant racism. As for my game, I done did what I could.

We all want to think that Tennessee is a place everyone wants to play but that is not the truth. However, with every decommit it becomes more evident that Martin was about himself and not Tennessee. Glad he is gone.

Honestly it's equally hard for recruits and coaches who have this happen late in the game. That being said, CCM is the one who quit on his recruits and put them in the position they now find themselves. The university didn't quit on them, Martin did, so if fans and unhappy recruits wanna blame someone blame him.
