When a person freely enters into an a agreement then it is perfectly legitimate to expect that standards be set and obeyed. Playing CFB on scholarship is a PRIVILEGE not a right. He has the RIGHT to go elsewhere if he doesn't like the standards but his rights are not being violated by rules.

One of the biggest problems in our country is that people... and worse among the young... have virtually no concept of what constitutes a "right".[/QUOTE]

George Bush was elected to a second term after implementing the Patriot Act and stomping all over citizen's rights. Are you sure that those not among the youth have a good concept of what rights are and how they should be protected?

Good post. This country was made great by the people coming together and making sacrifices for the common good. The country's stature has fallen in part due to a societal change in mindset to propping short term returns and instant self-gratification over long term common sense. But I'll stop there before I get even further away from the OP.

I would like for the whole team to get together and do what my flight and I had to do in the Air Force, just shave everyone's head. It's all about brotherhood (no racial underlying tone so don't try) in football. It's also about everyone being equals right now, until Spring practice hits.

Air Force is weak! Go Army. Don't take this personal it's just a joke between the forces. :dance2:

Have we been attacked again since 9-11?? I think not. I'm more concerned about the Free Market staying free than I am the government listening to my conversations about UT Sports and other things. If I am doing something wrong then they can come pick me up. Until then, I'm fine with what they are doing since it doesn't effect the majority of the country on a daily, weekly, or yearly basis.

Back to the subject at hand.

Also, it's not just about implementing rules. It's about everyone on the team doing the same thing and not being selfish. The act of getting your hair cut short or buzzed and the willingness to make yourself part of something bigger than what one person is was what I was getting at. We have had too many selfish players and individuals on this team in the past 6 years or so that it makes me wonder if they were ever really a part of the team itself.

Considering the incompetency surrounding the Bush administration and the facts behind 9/11, that is one of the stupidest possible arguments imagineable. So, because they had there pants down and ignored warnings I'm supposed to congratulate them for us not getting attacked again? I'm not even going to bring up all of the shady information behind 9/11. Older conservatives need to get out of this narrow, tunnel-vision way of thinking that they are the only people who have a clue how to run a country or conduct foreign policy. The position we are in now is a direct result of that narrow point of view.

If you want to bring the team together, go do some team training exercises at fort campbell like the Titans and Predators do. Not allowing any individualism isn't fair. The team isn't a democracy, but its also not Communist Russia.

when you choose to sign the papers to take money in exchange for your education they have a little control over you. If the hair is more important than being a member of the football team then he can quit.

Right on:salute:

Cody Pope looked like he was living off the land. I don't have any problem with the coach telling him to shape up.

The whole military analogy is fine, but there's nothing wrong with long hair. There are plenty of black guys on the team with long hair that don't look like they've been camping in a tent with Eric Rudolph for the past 6 months.

Pope was too disheveled and needed to tone it down IMHO.

please list (and cite sources) games that have been won or lost due to a players hair length.

from the way i read it, Mr. Pope and Coach Kiffin appear to have reached some sort of agreement as to his hair and its length. if the coach and player are in agreement, this a non issue to me.

Didn't you know? The Gators confessed last week they all shaved their pubes as a sign of team unity...

i think you're missing the point. Nobody is going to argue that hair length = wins/losses.

The argument is that somebody on the team that appears "way out of bounds" in terms of their appearance seems to be too individualistic.

If your coach and teammates are disgusted by the way you look, then you're probably a little bit out of bounds in terms of the "team expectations."

no, you're missing my point.

1. hair length does not affect wins and losses, therefore, i don't care if his hair is down to ass or his head is shaved.
2. if the coach is happy, then i'm happy.

i think any coach will tell you there is a fine line between letting players be themselves and making sure they conform to the team.

These players do things in the community as well as go to school and play football. Looking presentable to the public says alot about your coaches and your own character. Your haircut does not have to be a crewcut, just not down on your shoulders either.
