I'm not here to really bash anyone. I'm a VOL fan, alumni and love my state and school but in life there needs to be change sometimes.
Does anyone remember the 80's when UT was known as "Linebacker U" instead of "Receiver U"? Does anyone remember when we had defensive backs that would line up on the line with the receivers and hit them coming off the ball, instead of spoting the 7-10 yds to start their route? And heaven forbid I would rather see a 3rd and 4, instead of 3rd and fifteen and that great "Mustang prevent defense". When was the last time we had a defensive ALL AMERICAN?
Our offense although decent can't throw the ball 30 yds down the field. I know we have inexperienced receivers, but theres got to come a time when you have to try. We continually try to run but where are our horses like, Jay Graham, Johnny Jones and such. When you are in the top 10 recruiting class for 5 yrs in a row there's got to be something wrong. These guys know fundamentals.
I believe we need you blood in the system. Offenses and defenses have changed in the last years. The SEC is more talented than ever. The cellar dwellers are now making there statements, the good teams get better and we're stuck with teams that win 8-9 games but can't win the big ones. Just a thought.

This is my post from Sept. 05

It's time for the entire face of UT football to change, I'm sorry this old UT tradition of lining up and lets see if you can stop us has got to end we need some new faces and fresh ideas.
Let's look back 10 years or so, 2 SEC titles and 1 NC, with the personal UT has had there should have been at least 2 more NC's and several SEC titles. Look at how many players are in the NFL from UT in the past 10 years, as much or more than most other colleges in the country, we won a NC in 98 but look at the talent on that team a decent high school staff could have coached them.
I think UT needs to get a head coach fron outside the UT family, someone is not afraid to buck traditon, UT is stale and geting boring and the players don't seem up. Fulmer going hip hip horray :lolabove: doesn't get it anymore. When Spurrier left the NFL I thought if UT could get him as head coach if would have been the best thing to happen to Big Orange football in 50 years, what did Fulmer do when Spurrier left he went straight to the AD and renewed his contract, smart thinking Mr. Fulmer.
For Tennessee to get to the next level a major change had to be made, we have had the talent, so if you have the talent all that is left is for the coaching staff to extract the talent from each and every player on every play and provide them with a game plan to use that talent.
The bottom line is the coaching staff has had the tools to win but they have their heads stuck so far in the past everyone else is surpassing us with less talent but better coached players and much better game plans, we need someone to come in and throw away the UT playbook and start over, what did Fla. do they went outside of their system and hired UT people and a Tennessee boy (Spurrier) and built a winnig program. It's time for some fresh ideas get a coaching staff that doesn't care about tradition just whatever it takes to win games.

by no means am i siding with Bama, but look what bringing in a new coach does...it not only gets the players up but my gosh 92,000 for a spring game...but if we all keep wishing that we can turn this season around and pull off 8 wins what does that do for us but keep our beloved coaching staff around for another year of middle of the pack football...like it or not, we are going to have to fall to the bottom before we can rise to the top.
