As you can guess you know I am kinda biased toward shula but I was wondering if you wanted to rank coaching performances in the SEC...

1. Spurrier
2. Miles ( only because of the hurricane)
3. Shula
4. Tubberville
5. Rict
6. Meyer
7. Johnson
8. Nutt
9. Croom
10. Fulmer
11. Brooks
12. Orgeron

This is what I think....

Miles pretty much walked in and left most everything untouched. So LSU's success is a continuation of the old system. It's hard to evaluate him accurately since we've seen only a fraction of his coaching skills this season.

the only reason I put him so high was because of all the adversity... I would have put him prolly 6 or so....

That's hard to do. But a couple of things:

1. How is Fulmer not dead last?

2. Miles is Barry Switzer taking over for JJ.

3. Tubby did a great job.

4. Richt did another great job after being picked 3rd in the East.

5. Orgeron is a total bafoon.

6. Shula better, but I'm not sold. He looks lost to me.

hm...this one is tough...
1a Spurrier--DANG IT!!!!
1b Tubberville...he lost a lot from last year, and no one expected them to do what they did this year...
3 Shula...had he beaten LSU or Aub, he'd be #1.
4 Miles...gets credit for not tanking after the TN game, he got out coached in that game...would have been easy to do given all the obstacles they had down there this year...
5 Richt...couldn't get Tereshinski to come thru against an average UF team, sorry, but it's true.
6 Meyer great wins vs. UGA, TN and FSU, but none of those teams, incl UGA at the time they played them, were your daddy's UGA, TN, FSU...big losses to Bama and LSU hurt.
7. Johnson...great job there, they get to a bowl this year, he's top three, but good win over a TN team that they should beat, bad losses against MTSU and KY.
8. Nutt...toughest schedule, were in a lot of games, very young team...look out for them next year...
9. Croom...good win over Ole Miss, but needs better players...
10. Oregeron...welcome to the SEC brother.
11. Fulmer...took a #3 pre season team and SEC contender and finsished 5th in the East?
12. Brooks...ugh...they're just not good.

that's mine... :peace2:

answers to your questions:
1. Because there's alwasy Rich Brooks....Fulmer pulls up at #11 for me.
2. I agree, but he gets credit for the situation they were in, it would have been easy to tank after the TN game...
3. yep, agreed...
4. yeah, but he lost to UF again, and Auburn...
5. uh huh.
6. I think he's finally settling in a bit...we'll see how he does next year, i think the expectaions in Tuscaloosa may be a bit more intense next year....plus you can't lose to Auburn like that....

I wonder what Spurrier would say if he saw this? Prolly something like; “Aw. . .Aw shucks. . . .I’m just an old ball coach, trying to win a few games here and there”

Well then you are realistic, but as many fans, both in orange and in crimson, are, they will expect the moon...i haven't looked at Bama's schedule next year, but it's 12 games, and they'll have to play TN,AUB, LSU, UF(right?) and ARK....don't know the rest of the OOC or home/away set up...but with no Brodie Croyle, how will the offense be? 8-4/7-5?

anything more than 8 wins would be a good thing for them and us from what i can tell....

Were you not ranking based on this year? If so, Fulmer did the least with the most by far.

GA lost to FL because Shockley was hurt. They were playing a rook in there.

They lost to an extremely good and well coaches Auburn team. AUB is the best team in the conference right now. They would beat either one of theose teams in ATL right now. I wouldn't hold that against him.

Richt also beat a pretty Tech team...and he did all of this with a team that NO ONE thought would do that much.

That’s my point; he did a hell of a job as always with humility as his guide.

Hawaii W
Vanderbilt W
Louisiana-Monroe W
at Arkansas W/L
at Florida W/L
Duke W
Ole Miss W
at Tennessee W/L
Florida International W
Mississippi State W
at LSU W/L
Auburn W/L

7-5 at worst.... if we win all home games and 2 out of the four away games 10-2 if we lose to auburn and spilt away games 9-3.... John Parker Wilson is a decent QB.... and Prothro will be back... OL will be older... Bamas problem will come with a young defense...

THat's an awful OOC schedule....ULM, Duke, Florida who?, and Hawaii? I don't think 9-3 is out of the question...TN and ARK would be beatable in my book...

for us it shapes up like this:
Cal w/l
Air Force w
UF w/l
Marshall w
@Memphis w
@UGA w/l
Bama w/l
@USC w/l
LSU w/l
@ARK w/l
@Vandy w
KY w

And truthfully i would hope that we could beat Cal and ARK...so i'd say 7-5 at worst as well....we get Bama, UGA or USC as well...we could turn that in to a 9-3 pretty quickly...
so i'll split the difference....8-4. the 5 game stretch between Memphis and Vandy will be tough...if we go 3-2 thru that, i'll be amazed.

I don't know that "no one" thought they would do much...i seem to remember Lee Corso picked them from the get go to win the East...the only quesiton i remember hearing about UGA was whether or not Shockley would pan out or not...well he did....and after the TN game, they were in the top five....

My only point is the loss to UF hurt. He called that game SO conservatively...i know it was a rook but c'mon, you talk about palying NOT to lose......losing to Auburn, well, not a bad loss at the end of the day...

Thank you. Although the Fulmer haters on here don't like it, it takes a Bama fan to point out that one lousy season once in a while happens to everybody, and it's been a long time since we've had ours. And Rammer, when some of your buds were ragging on CMS last year, I once posted on a Bama board that if you guys would stick with him, you wouldn't regret it. (I was of course immediately flamed!)

NOt everyone is hating on CPF...this thred though was ranking the coaches for THIS year...do you think he did a good job this year?

I personally think no, which is why i ranked him 11th. but that doesn't mean me or anyone else is a "hater". Just giving our opinion on our one bad season in a very long time....

and for those that had him last, there IS an valid arguement for that...

we were ranked #3 in the nation
we had been picked to win the East and SEC CG in many places
Our own coach bought in to the hype...
finished 5th in the East
1st losing season in 17 years
ended a 16 year bowl streak
ended a 22 year win streak against Vandy
Lost to USC for the 1st time EVER in Knoxville...
Lost to UGA again.
Lost to UF again.
Lost to Bama

Again not "hating" those are all just facts...and the grade you get for those facts is an F. now let's get back on the bicycle, get it fixed and get ready for 06...

"Hating" means looking at the big picture rather than title games. Some people think small and think as long as we have a .700 or higher record and an occassional trip but loss in the SEC title game things are fine. Forget the discipline issues, the lack of points, td's, and development of high school talent, the fumbles, the dropped passes, the penalties, the lack of quality NFL players, the lack of quality wins, the more losses at home, etc. etc. etc. Some people clearly don't take everything into consideration. Some are just too easy to please and pacify or just don't like questioning quality or lack of.....

Hard to rank based on one bad season. Spurrier is at the top of course, then Fulmer, then the rest. To me you have to win the whole thing not just the SEC. It's unfortunate this poll is biased against Fulmer for having one crummy season. I guess thats why I almost didn't post. :banghead:
