Coaching Staff vs Recruiting Experts

Coaches do not look at star rating for the most part. Who do you think spends more money to evaluate the players. Coaches and school recruiters, or the web sites?
Fans put all the relevance on the stars.
Fans would be better off calculating this way... 1 star for every BCS conference that has offered the player.
I think the SECmr TOooS did some interesting calculations and found that Rivals is the best at evaluating, based on win % over 4 year spans. It held up over long testing. One funny thing, they said UGA never hits the win% for the player rating. They consistantly coach their players down. lolz

Major flaw with this thread title. There are NO recruiting experts to begin with ... only varying recruiting opinions.

Recruiting services are in the entertainment business. They aren't all that concerned with "getting it right". They just want subscribers.

Another thing to remeber with the recruiting sites now and how they rank the player and why they differ so much.

ESPN rates players higher if they are commited to playing or think they will in the Under Armor game. Rivals does the same for the Army game. Scout is trying to form the same now with the Semper Fi game. I think 247 might be the best because they really do not endorse any of the games.

Rivals doesn't. Otha Peters, Quinshad Davis, and Jason Croom weren't in the under armor game and all of them moved into the top 250. Justin Meridith was in the under armour game and he dropped 10 position spots and turned into a 3 star. Kimbrow was in the under armor game and he got dropped out of the 250.

Offer lists can be just as decieving. A player may not fit in the team's system, they may not have room, the player may have never camped there. It is just as decieving.

Not just as deceiving, but you're right, they aren't perfect either. Depends on the position too, but I think offer lists are better indicators than stars. Id love someone less lazy than I to research it.

That's what he said, Rivals gives bonus points for the Army game, ESPN for UA.

IMO, the biggest thing you have to look at from a recruiting class is how well does it fill your teams needs? Dooley has done a great job with this recruiting class taking care of needs for our team. He did a great job last year as well. Are DTs and LBs going to get you a high ranking class? Good question. It may not be glamorous but they are a key to UTs future success. He also looks to have filled our need at WR too.

The biggest benefit that I see with Dooley is that he is a good judge of talent. Just because they are not a 4 or 5 star recruit by the rating service doesn't mean they can't play. You definitely can't base the class just off the stars.

Remember Jarod Mayo was only a 3 star recruit.

I know Tyrann Matheiu only had an offer from LSU and he was a four star. Im too lazy to actually look it up too lol.

Players ranked out of the top 100 are not what I was referring to. I am referring to the guys that get 5 stars or are highly rated 4 stars. Yes none of those 3 players played in a all star game but none of those 3 players were rated in the top 100 by Rivals.

Peters is ranked 126
Davis is ranked 223
Croom is ranked 246

Meredith and Kimbrow again like you said played in the Under Armor game, which is sponsored by ESPN. Rivals sponsors the Army game. Of course they would not concern lowering a player playing for ESPN.

Kimbrow is currently ranked 160 on Rivals(so he is not dropped out) and 138 on ESPN. Higher on the one he was playing in.

Also remember the invites for these games go out before their senior season starts or during. So long before any final rankings.

Heard directly from lance Thompsons mouth about recruiting and the sites. The sites miss on about half the kids. Fans are idiots. Most of the the writers/site scouts are even bigger idiots. Its about money and how many more idiots they can suck into their game. Coaches use the sites to find kids, then folow them which causes a lot of piggy back. They put out offers. Tons of them. They also say things that kids believe is an offer, the kids put on sites, and receive more offers, and improve rankings. This whole recruiting game has cause an unbelievable parity in the game itself.Once you get past the first 100 obvious players, which a few teams are devouring and causing them to be the elite the next 500 -1500 are very similar. Its then player development which is important. There are 50 Dalton Santos out there. Can he develop into a NFL lb absolutely.
