I just wonder if at the end of the year we don't make any changes on the staff. I'm betting Dooley doesn't because if he does I think this would be perceived as a panic move...any thoughts?

Also, I was wondering if you guys think having Chuck around still would have made any kind of impact on the D-line or not? The whole circumstance around him leaving still has me wondering what was going on between him and Dooley.

The stories about how bad an in game coach Chuck Smith was are numerous.

The only potential change I could see would be Russell out and a running back coach in, with some other staff member taking over special teams. However, I doubt this, and think all will remain the same.

With this being the 2nd year of many of some of the position coaches are their contracts up this year? I know some of them signed 2 and 3 year deals when they were hired last year. Wasn't sure if any were extended this past offseason or not other than Wilcox.

Why should we make changes? Changing coaches will not change the personnel on the field. IMO, our D-line played some good ball today until they got gassed. Our O-line showed some grit that we have not seen all year. Our ST's are actually playing better than they have in the past 3 years. Our offense, well, just is not OUR offense. At least not what we started with.

Didn't chuck leaving open up the spot for Sirmon who is so far an outstanding recruiter?

How bad are we talking here? Not that I don't believe you but can you give me some more insight?

Toward the end of the year, Lance Thompson was supposedly coaching the Linebackers and the D-line. And yes . . . there was also that thing where D-linemen were running in circles at the end of the LSU game.

I don't get it. I don't think anyone who knows anything about football expected this team to go undefeated this year. Everyone was saying with this schedule 8-4 would be a great season. I still think we beat SC and go 7-5.

Yeah, if CCS was still around. UT would have lost all three games by a much larger margin!!! If you can't tell how much better CLT is than CCS at coaching up the DL. Then, you should stop starting football threads. CLT better get a raise and be retained. He has done a tremendous job with the personel UT has on the DL.

The DL had a solid performance tonight against some top shelf talent. LSU had more problems between the tackles tonight than they have all year.

I never thought they would go undefeated---believe me I was definitely WELL aware of how this season might go....and as far as my questions leading to your assumptions. I'm just wondering how a veteran O-line coach allows our O-line to regress to this point? We aren't talking about walk-ons or no talents...

The Chuck Smith question was pure curiosity...I mean heck the guy coached at an NFL level but if you guys say he screwed up with the LSU game last year and Lance picked up the slack then it's understandable why he isn't here now.

I wouldnt mind Joseph finding a job somewhere else after the season. We dont need him for recruiting and the DBs seem to be the only defensive position that I find myself consistently angry at. JMO.

Getting rid of Chuck Smith and replacing him with Sirmon was a definite upgrade. When I saw Chuck Smith's farewell presser in front of the stadium I was so embarrased for him. He sounded like he was mentally sick.

Seems I recall there being talk that Chuck Smith was so problematic as a coach that it got to the point that Justin Wilcox said to Dooley it's me or him; one of us has to go.

BTW, hasn't the D-line's play so far this season been much better than last season?

Agree with Hiestand. I'm not so sure about Russel or Joseph.

If I had to rank them with regard to most likely to exit, I would say 1) Hiestand, 2) Joseph, and 3) Russel. All could survive, but 2 out of 3 leaving (or being shown the door) wouldn't shock me.
