Coaching Search Thread

I'll save you some time this morning. Here's what you'll hear:

- we need to hire somebody that is a winner, somebody that has a track record of success

- we need a person who is a great fit

- someone with boundless energy; enthusiastic; loves people

- a great communicator; loves to be around people who care about the University of Tennessee

- a great recruiter- that's our lifeblood

- ability to connect with people, connect with players, connect with recruits, sees the big picture on our campus and appreciate being a part of our university

- genuine priority on academic success

- someone that is willing to work for peanuts, someone that believes coaching at TN is a privilege and is not motivated by money cause we don't pay very much.

Oh we will back a proven cheater like Tyndall who's had every school on probation he's been at, but by no means will we support the guy who built tennessee basketball. Makes sense smh.

I wanted us to rehire Bruce last year. I would love for us to bring him back, but there is ZERO chance that we pay a $5M buyout to Auburn

I would like to officially launch the "Triple B to Tennessee" campaign (Bring Back Bruce to Tennessee) aka #BBBtoUT. Lets go get the coach that really had UT on the map for several years and made UT basketball fun and worth watching. He's had time to get his act together and learn from his mistakes and it would be fantastic to see him put on the orange and white again!!!! #Vols #VFL #BrucePearl

That would be the easiest fix, Bruce would jump to come back here, he still lives here, it would be the biggest story/homecoming in college sports. Match that with butch on the football side and we might actually win some stuff. If VFL really means anything they'll bring back Bruce. But in reality here comes another no name to put 12k in the arena.

You underestimate the influence of UT boosters and Alumni. Bruce would make UT relevant again and boosters and alumni know this and would be willing to help make it happen.

Mr. Hart, go and get a winner please sir!!!! I don't care what his government name is. As long as he can recruit and put up some W's, the fans will eventually come around.

I agree. Step outside the box get a winner n not let money be the first obstacle.. U win n fans will come.

Hart is on the clock if he screws this up n cbj has avg yr.. He will be gone if this doesn't get him

We would really have to have the boosters behind pearl to pull that off but it's possible. Not likely. I wonder if the haslems are pearl fans or not?

Not to mention sell season tickets, bring back the fan base, sellout TBA. I was at all the ut home games this year and only when Bruce came did we come close to a sellout. He even sells out his arena when he's coaching the other team lol.

Looks about right smh

Hyams in his interview on 104.5 said there was way more to the story than the BBQ. Said Pearl lied about Brian Williams back injury to Hart when in fact he failed a drug test. Hart called him out on it and he stuck with the story.

Edit:Hyams said AD. I'm an idiot and said Hart. It was Hamilton

I love Bruce and all, but all you guys calling for Bruce back are not thinking straight. You think Hart is going to trust that a guy with NCAA issues has suddenly changed his colors just because he got caught? That's what he just did with Tyndall...

Can we start one where we keep it to legitimate names (no Smarts, Pearls, Marshalls, etc.)?

Based on UTs last 4 hires, who were all mid-majors, here's who I see as legitimate names:

Will Wade (UTC HC) - won't move the national meter much.

Bobby Hurley (Buffalo HC) - in line for a big-time HC job in next few years, but can he recruit in the south.

Ron Hunter (Ga St. HC) - he would be near the top of my list.

Steve Prohm (Murray St. HC) - also in line for a big-time HC job in next few years. This would be a solid hire.

Michael White (LA Tech HC) - he turned UT down once and I don't see them going back down that road.

Rick Byrd (Belmont HC) - it wouldn't be a good coaching search thread without throwing his name in. He would stabilize the program and run a clean program, but age and energy are a factor.

Rick Stansbury (former Miss St. HC) - this would be intriguing. Had no NCAA issues despite what some think.

Please add to the list if I have left someone legitimate out.

Additional names:

Ben Jacobsen (Northern Iowa HC)

Chris Mack (Xavier HC)

Brad Underwood (SFA HC)

Andy Toole (Robert Morris HC)

Billy Donlon (Wright St. HC)

Richard Pitino, Jr. (Minnesota HC)

Danny Hurley (Rhode Island HC)

I like jacobsen, potinio Jr., and hunter

I wouldn't exactly call GA St a basketball powerhouse, so if he winning 20 games about half the time I am not sure that is all that bad.

He's only been at GSU for 4 years. He's been a HC for 21 years and has won 20+ games 7x. No one here even heard of Hunter until 3 weeks ago, now he's everyone's favorite coach. What he did with GSU isn't as impressive when you consider he doesn't have a typical mid-major roster. He's playing with 4-5* talent thanks to transfers.

Bruce won't happen, but I like the thought of B. Hurley, Prohm, or Williams. Timing could have had Williams here last year but it didn't work out.

If you think Hart trusted Tyndall after a whopping 12 or less hours with him, then maybe we have Hart issues.

I'm gonna throw a name out that's already here what about al pinkins. Great recruiter, downside no head coach experience. Never been in NCAA trouble as far as I know. Most important his already on staff so may not be much of a turnover like last year.

Kinda ironic he hired Tyndall, who lied and got caught cheating at both schools that are now on probation..
