A coach would be an absolute idiot to touch this job before the NCAA punishments are doled out.
I disagree to some extent. UT has known for a while now what to expect if they retained BP and what to expect if they fired him. I highly doubt there would be any surprises between what they know now and what is actually handed down when the time comes. Any prospective canidate will know what to expect whether their hired b4 of after the punishments are made public.

PTI just brought up Larry Brown openly saying he wants to return to college coaching. Like they said, yea hes 70 but looks 50, seems to be very healthy. If people say they dont want Brown cause he may leave after 2-3 years, that could be exactly what we need if we are gonna be handed sanctions and no one else wants to come here right now.

Stevens and Smart. None of the other impress me. Marshall reminds of sleezy Calipari for some reason. Frank while probably would be a decent coach he looks like a geek which is the same as Mark Fox NO THANKS!!!!!

Stevens or Stevens for me. This guy gets results... and consistently enough to know he isn't a one hit wonder. Can't say that yet about Smart.

I was going to put all of their offenses and defenses, but i exited out of chrome so it all got lost. If someone wants to help out with that PM the coaches offense or defense.

Stevens would be target A for me but I get the feeling since his family is from indianapolis he will be hard pressed to leave Butler unless Crean fails to rebuild Indiana then Stevens would shoot right though "The ole picket fence" and be a Hoosier. i still say we are too big of a program not to taget the best.

Would anyone take Larry brown or Frank for 2 years (obviously) and then bring back pearl after his suspension on a minimum salary and conditional based contract? Try and delay or Avoid buy out and use money for Browns contract.

To avoid the incoming 300 threads, lets keep all coaching news in here. I'll update when new information/ interview with coaches occur.
All coaches are rumored until they are bolded.

Candidates:
Stephens- Butler
Smart- VCU
Mooney- Richmond
Frank- NBA
Williams- Marquette
Marshall- Wichita State
Turgeon- Texas A&M
Martin- Missouri State
Larry Brown- Pipe Dream
Interviews:

Links:
Seven possible replacements for Bruce Pearl GoVolsXtra

My first choice is Mooney because he has built a program and has recruited some good players.

Stephens from Butler and Smart from VCU is good. But if Hammy wants to make a big splash and get Tennessee basketball back fast and fill TBA give Rick Pitino a call first and make him say no. He took over a Kentucky program on probation and won a NCAA championship.

How are Stevens and Smart similiar, exactly?

Sadly, to say there's a 0% chance would signify some optimism as to the chances he comes here. The chances are so small its not even measurable.

Scratch Stevens and Jay Wright from your wish lists, and don't look back.

Excellent thread! I was wondering when someone would take the reins of this discussion.

Personally, I like Shaka Smart. And Buzz Williams. They're like Brad Stevens, but without the baggage of accomplishment.

Nice job.

I don't really want Smart.

Stevens probably won't leave Butler.

And do we have a legit chance at the Marquette Coach?

First three lines of Smart's current resume:

1. First name is Shaka
2. Currently in Sweet 16
3. Did I mention my first name was, SHAKA?!? Go ahead, say it - Shaka. Smooth, huh?

Curly (Williams) to OU, I believe.

Lavin. Lavin. Lavin.

Isn't he playing with Anthony Grant's players?

Mostly, but there's this from the VCU cheat sheet:

"Known as a high-caliber recruiter, Smart has lived up to his billing with the Black & Gold, landing one of the most highly-touted recruiting class in the program’s history for the 2010-11, a class that has gained national attention from ESPN.com, Scout.com and Rivals.com."

and...

"Additionally, Smart has been credited for his work on the recruiting trail, playing a significant role in the Tigers’ landing of top 100 recruits Catalin Baciu, Terrence Oglesby and Milton Jennings. While at Florida, he helped the Gators land the nation’s No. 3 recruiting class, according to ESPN.com, including McDonald’s All-American guard Kenny Boynton."

I've read that he was "recruiting director" at both Clemson and Florida, FWIW. Also, I understand that selling UT is different from selling Florida.
