A buddy of mine who is a UNC grad sent me the below. The guys name is Chuck Neinas and it sounds like we could use him.

Neinas was hired a couple of years ago by UNC to consult in the search that eventually landed Davis. I think he’s the former commissioner of the Big Ten or something and may have been an agent at some point. Now, he’s almost like the agent for the schools. He brings a lot of credibility, and since he usually represents more than one school at a time, coaches and their agents can say they have not had any discussions with school x. Because of his clout and market share, he apparently knows which coaches will use schools just to get a raise from their current employers, and should one lie to him, they suffer the consequences next time their name surfaces in a search. I’m sure you’ll find better info than what I can tell you just by googling him. If UT hires him, you’ll know within a week or so.

Did Hamilton use a search firm to find Pearl? I honestly can't remember. If they didn't you got to have faith in Hamiltons instinct in hireing a coach but If they did for sure need to give this guy a look if he can get Davis to UNC.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. If you need to use a search firm to find your coach, you need a new athletic director.

All I know is that UT has hired a national search firm to conduct a search…that doesn’t happen without the incumbent being in deep, deep trouble.

I would say that there already is one on board. We have about 6-8 weeks to get this right.

I'm sure MH and the entire athletic department are aware just how important it will be to make this a long term hire, so I'd agree with you that we've probably already got someone.

UT said they were going to do a national search for an OC when they brought Cutty back. They never even left Knox County.

Question about that though- how do they deal with talking to employed coaches without getting UT's name thrown around? I guess it doesn't really matter if you get the right guy but I'd hate to see UT pursue 5 guys and get turned down. Doesn't breed confidence in the guy you do get.

I know very little about this process since I've truly never seen it with UT football.

Hire one UT connected attorney or headhunter and let them handle contacts. No need to hire an outside firm.

Keep in mind that a search firm can contact head coaches that are still under contract. Where as Tennessee would need to get permission from the other school first. That is why you need a search firm to help. They can find out if a coach is interested in the job even though he is under contract with another school.

You don't have to get permission to talk to anyone. It's a courtesy, not a mandate.
