You can't exactly say that. Most of the McDonald's All-Amedicans were gone, but Peterson had to dismiss 2 guards, Haislip was suspended the first half of the season, and Slay got hurt. I highly doubt they would've been dismissed if Green still coached.Woods went on to be a good 3pt shooter at his new school.

If I’m not mistaken, Woods led the nation in scoring. I think he was at a Florida mid major. Something like Florida Atlantic.

Edit: looked him up. He went to Florida A&M. Led the nation in three-point percentage. Averaged 20.5 and 20.3 points per game in his two respective seasons there. Was on track to be a fantastic player at Tennessee. He and Harris Walker would have been an incredible back court. Not sure where Walker went after Tennessee.

And WTF do you mean by “botched” the baseball hire? He interviewed three people and hired the one the fans all wanted.

I honestly have no idea what reality some of you inhabit.

Yeah, White ran off Vitello right into a Major League managerial job. Damn, if he had only committed a bit more NIL money, maybe Tony would have rethought the dream of every coach/manager and becoming literally an historic figure as the first college coach to ever become a MLB manager with zero MLB experience. If Danny had just been a little nicer.

Believe it or not, Buzz was a hot name in coaching search season for a couple years. That NIt championship at Tulsa impressed people, who seemed to forgot Tulsa made the E8 the year before. Buzz had traction in 2001 but clearly wasnt ready for prime time.

Talent wasn't really the issue. Fan engagement, general attitude towards administration and media, player discipline, and coaching adjustments were more of his downfall.

Any way you slice it, it was O'Neil who got the recruiting back on track. I actually think O'Neil could have succeeded had he stuck around. He did a lot with very little, and is a bit of a scapegoat.

Now, was O'Neil a nice person, or someone the administration wanted to continue to work with? That is another discussion altogether.

Know one thing. , better not let your kids sit behind Vols bench when Kevin o Neil was the coach lol. Better plug their ears

Wouldn’t KO have succeeded elsewhere if indeed he was likely to have succeeded at UT had he stuck around?

I think a head basketball coach at the high D1 level has to have several different skills to truly build a successful program. KO was clearly lacking in the critical interpersonal skills required to have successful relationships with his bosses (AD & large donors). There’s a reason some of these coaches stick like a Barnes where others are constant rolling stones like a Musselman for example

Perhaps. Its just that I, personally, would have liked to have seen him have another year here, because he worked so hard to rebuild things, after the (Wade Houston) low point. Had I been closer to the situation, I likely would have had a very different opinion.
