Guys over at Volquest are discussing the possibility of Chavis to South Carolina.

Dont see that being an option for him.

that would make absolutely no sense at all
let's see, he's been under fire for hte past two years for fielding sub par defenses at TN, it's not unknown he's not thrilled with the fanfare and financial upside about Cut. He's no fan of one of the assistants who seems to be a fan favorite.......oh yeah, and he's from South Carolina.

what were they thinking? I don't think he's going to leave either, but this would be an option, and it does make sense.
The Norm Chow to UCLA one seems to be picking up steam...
yep. Mike Leach seems to be up there too.

I'm sure Spurrier was real impressed with Chavis' defensive playcalling for most of the 90's against his Florida teams and let's see, the last time he played a Chavis defense they gave up a 21 point lead... I know I'd be way impressed...

And I'm not bashing Chavis, just don't see this being a very viable option here... Where's Brother Bill? Spurrier wanted him before at SC

chavis has roots in SC, has been a great recruiter for us in that state, and it's not like he's just a terrible coach. he could help keep in state talent in Columbia.

this really isn't as far fetched as some may think, but i still don't see it happening, unless SC comes off the hip and gets, what some would consider, a bitter man to change colors.

i would love for chavis to go anywhere....
especially south carolina...

that way, spurrier would never be able to pull out a victory over the vols again. ever.

He is from Dillon SC which is not far from Columbia but like Fulmer he is a VOL alum and former player....he's just simply UT all the way. Only way he leaves Knoxville is getting the axe or retirement IMO.

i don't disagree. but let's set this up, because that could get challenged.

how?
wait and see if CDC gets a raise to retain if he's sought after for a hc position. if i'm chavis, i have to wonder why does this guy continue to get all the props, praise and money? afterall, he LEFT TN, i stuck around thru the hard times. He comes back, gets great money to do so, as if he's a savior, when it was my defense in 05 that probably kept the record from being 3-8. All i've done is be loyal and "stay the course". and now you're going to give this "turncoat come back again" more money?

then you have an assistan coach who has endeared the entire fan base by chest bumping his way to good graces.

meanwhile, for the past two years, all i've done is get critisized for not being able to keep up with the jonses. Fans want me fired. Admin's not going to keep me up to the same standard as Cut.......

hmmmmm......SC and SOS want me to come coach there?

like i said, i still don't think it will happen, but i can certainly understand why it's brought up.

"I'll take College Football for $800, Alex...."

Alex: The answer is:

Duke
UCLA
Michigan
Ole Miss
Washington State
Baylor
Georgia Tech
Nebraska
Houston
Southern Illinois
Southern Miss
Colorado State
SMU

Alex: Yes, John Chavis....
John Chavis: What are 13 Div-I schools not interested in talking to me about the head coaching position?
Alex: Correct! Select again....

John Chavis: College Football for $1000, Alex

Alex: The answer is... Houston Nutt didn't even bother contacting this well-known Rocky Top coach for the Defensive Coordinator position at Ole Miss.

Alex: Yes, John Chavis...?
John Chavis: Who is John Chavis?
Alex: Correct! Select again, please...

WOOT!

Ever stop to think that this might be some lame attempt to convince the AD that Chavis is "in demand", thereby giving cover for giving Chavis and Cut matching raises?

As far as I can tell, it's nothing more than message board chatter. But that's OK, we kind of need something to chatter about right now. Things are slow.

Of course..

But I should think Chavis would appear to be "in demand" if there were actually "official rumors" being circulated... like "XYZ has asked permission to talk to John Chavis"... I just haven't seen anything like that.
