Coaching or talent?

OL not capable of playing at a high level. Ruins the entire offense.
It will be coaching in year two if these players aren't capable or if they haven't been replaced with players that can get the job done.
You can't keep trying to play with a bad OL forever and ten years ago it started and continues today.

I don't know exactly how Saban is doing it but his players are big and strong look like a Pro team. He has a program of strength and power going on there that is unmatched anywhere in the country. They smash people with their lines and their RB's run through holes ten feet wide. Their QB has all day to throw and can change the play while the other team is trying to rush.

It's not either or, it's a combination. I'm not looking for big wins, would be nice, or beating the spread every time. Just show me something that tells me CJP is the man for the job. All I get now is 'gotta wait a few years' to tell.

Just want to see some kind of consistent growth. Am I wrong in thinking that a good coach can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear but they can make anyone better. I'm not, in any shape or form, a x's and o's guy. I have been watching long enough to know heart, grit, determination and other intangibles when I see them. Not seeing a whole lot.

Defense has shown some promise, imo, so there's that. From the beginning I said I'd reserve judgement of this season till the end of it, but it isn't looking good at this point, in my perspective.

I'm not a Negavol, I'm a Depressedavol.

We focus a lot on stars, which i am not at all devaluing here because it matters some. However cjp said he is also looking for intangibles which could include toughness, mean streak, and high motor. These are qualities that we are lacking on the oline, for example quinton williams for alabame last night was unblockable all night and he didnt come with a bunch of stars, yet is own teammate says he's like trying stop a 300 lb bar of soap. I believe cjp knows what it takes to get it fixed, he just needs those type guys first and we simply dont have them.

I guess its a combination of both. Even Kiffin had less to work with in 2009, started 2 walk- one ( Sullin twins) and made then look respectable. Not sure we have ahead a good O line coach since Kiffin was here
hahaaa...u stole my comment....lol

Not sure about the other guys in the line, but I feel like Richmond has laid down, and quit.

Pruitt's best friend is the Oline coach, Mr Will Friend, ironic?
Will Friend was Pruitt's roomie at Bama...CWF can get guys playing on the field....Now you may not like his Richtian schemes..
But somebody else has to get them in playing shape...Get that S&C program shaped up..and CWF MAY get better results.

Against SEC teams, they’re physically overmatched for the most part, but It does appear to me that the OL is the one position group that has not “bought in” to the new staff. I’m not seeing lack of effort from the rest of the position groups. I’m seeing mistakes, but the rest of the position groups seem to be playing with a high level of effort and intensity.

I don’t believe all of the linemen are playing soft, but it’s seems to be enough of them that it’s breaking the whole thing.

Can't be a bust, if he stays here and continues to develop. Puts in the work. Maybe he has had poor coaching since he arrived....Time will tell.
Has one more year to do it..We'll see . . Misses more blocks than anybody I've ever see

Have you not watched the last 2 years, there is very little talent on this team they would have the same record with most any coach.

Just talking about the O line man. Lots of 3 ,4 and even a 5 star , however , they all play like a bunch of 2 stars

Average to great coaches never complain about a lack of talent. That is all Pruitt does. You sell out your team on national TV and then expect them to perform. Really?
I'm so sick of these stupid comments it's attitudes like this ⬆️ that has caused the softness of these young kids!! It's ok snowflake, if it's to much for you I'd suggest maybe knitting..... Sometimes the truth hurts but it's what and how you respond is what makes you the person you are in life!!! I love the fact that coach lays blame where it belongs, suck it up buttercup we have a no nonsense southern man for a football coach, if ya can't handle it maybe it's time for some to explore other options!!!!!

The talent is so bad that you fant even judge coaching. If 5 guys cant stop a 3 man pass rush that's on the players. Until the players can man up and get a push on running plays it's hard to blame gameplan.

They’re used to trumpet boy trying to make things look better than they really were.

Some folks can’t handle straight shooters & honesty.

an o-line coach once told me he'd rather them hold than completely whiff because at least they were making an attempt and there was a good chance the ref might miss it. this stuff these guys are doing is effort-less

Alabama is by far the best team in the country and Saban complains or critiques something every week. If you're not getting better, you're getting worse....

The Vols are not even in the same universe as 'Bama. TN has NEVER had a coach like Saban.

If
Not to beat a dead horse but as I was watching our O line play like a bunch of middle schoolers against Charlotte, I started wondering if it is due to coaching or lack of talent? I have never seen more " watch- out" blocks that I witnessed yesterday. We seem so soft up front, get no push, no physicality whatsoever. There are several 3 and 4 stars and even a 5 star ( that got benched btw because he was getting manhandled) so maybe it's coaching? Either way, major changes needed before next season, personnel wise and maybe a new O line coach.
if you have to ask, then there’s no helping you!
You think we need a new Oline coach.
Starting the season , where would our O line rank in the Sec? 12-13th? We lose Kenedy, and Smith and you have to ask is it coaching or talent???

Sorry but we weren't playing an SEC team yesterday and they still looked terrible.. Are we really going to say that kids recruited but UT that have been practicing since spring under Pruitt shouldn't be able to move Charlotte off the ball? Am I being unreasonable?

bad players are grossly inconsistent. They are more likely to play harder against better competition and not even try against less talented teams. Looked to me like most of our poor players were not interested in playing yesterday, especially offensive line.. quicker they are gone the better things will be

Piss poor coaching and worse recruiting by the "master recruiter" led to a lack of talent. You simply cannot make a thoroughbred race horse out of a mule.

Agree, but you can hitch those mules up to the same wagon and make them pull. Our guys seem to be running different plays on the same snap.

I agree 100%. But we weren't playing SEC yesterday and they couldn't even pause the DL.
I didn't expect us to stop anyone. But against Charlotte, I did expect to cause delay in reaching our quarterback.

in the grand scheme of things, the game yesterday is really meaningless. I would not focus on the play of these players.

The focus is longer term and can this staff get the players required to play in the SEC? Can they then coach them up to compete in the SEC? Those questions will not be answered in 2018 but 2020 and 2021.. They have to flip the roster, develop new players and coach them up. That ain't happening with this roster..

Forget this year and focus on the future.

Fair enough. I agree they did look disconnected and not interested at all
