Not to beat a dead horse but as I was watching our O line play like a bunch of middle schoolers against Charlotte, I started wondering if it is due to coaching or lack of talent? I have never seen more " watch- out" blocks that I witnessed yesterday. We seem so soft up front, get no push, no physicality whatsoever. There are several 3 and 4 stars and even a 5 star ( that got benched btw because he was getting manhandled) so maybe it's coaching? Either way, major changes needed before next season, personnel wise and maybe a new O line coach.

They (the Tennessee Offensive line) DESPISE their "moniker"...all remain in their "SafeSpace'...and DON'T like "confrontation"...

Welcome to almost 2019...

Piss poor coaching and worse recruiting by the "master recruiter" led to a lack of talent. You simply cannot make a thoroughbred race horse out of a mule.
I guess its a combination of both. Even Kiffin had less to work with in 2009, started 2 walk- one ( Sullin twins) and made then look respectable. Not sure we have ahead a good O line coach since Kiffin was here

1 play bothered me more than anything else.
Charlotte got to our QB with a 3 man rush. A 3 man rush - Charlotte.

Seems 5 decent sized VN members should be able to hold back 3 players for more than 2.4 seconds after being coached up for months.
It raised a concern with me.

If the problem is coaching on the offensive line, then Fulmer will know.

I see absolutely NO talent with the front five. To be fair, not sure there is much talent to work with. I'm going to hold judgement on the coaching staff until we get a couple of recruiting classes.
It sure looks that way without Trey Smith which means the recruiting services are a joke because they say otherwise. Drew Richmond is going down as one of the all-time biggest busts in UT history

Pruitt's best friend is the Oline coach, Mr Will Friend, ironic?

It's more than likely a combination of both. I'm not at practice so I can't say for sure. At this level the coaches are surely trying to coach them up but maybe something is getting mixed up in comunication. As for the players, during the games it looks like a "oh well,I missed that block, whatever" attitude or just not focused with mental penalties. I don't know for sure but something is just not clicking with this group.

It's got to be talent....it can't be coaching every year....every year? I refuse to believe that all of a sudden, coaches come to TN and forget how to coach.

Average to great coaches never complain about a lack of talent. That is all Pruitt does. You sell out your team on national TV and then expect them to perform. Really?

On the other side, how do 4 and 5 star high school athletes forget how to play? Coaching, scheme, whatever it might be. If we're still using zone blocking like we did under Butch, maybe that's the problem. Have a feeling Fulmer will get involved if this continues

Agree, however, after watching all the missed blocks and assignments by our O linemen , there is an obvious problem either with talent , or lack thereof, or scheme

I'm going to go out on a limb and say, while this is a moot point at this point; should Pruitt begin to win games and become successful, my guess is your looking at a coach who will always see blown schemes, lack of effort, and always room for improvement. Some folks have a problem with him "blaming" players, not sure his tone with the fans would be as much of an issue should he be winning games. My point being, sometimes we, and yes all of us do it from time to time, we look for something to complain about due to frustration. When really if we were winning, folks wouldn't complain. An example: a couple of weeks ago he kicked a white board, people went crazy. I imagine if we had won that game, it wouldn't have been a problem. So let's rally together, hope for the best these last three games, and pray we have a wonderful recruiting class; we need it!! GBO!!

There is usually a combination of things more often than only 1 issue. I'm not putting much on scheme though, many of our plays are football 101. Yet we still manage to fail on assignments.
Baffling.

Alabama is by far the best team in the country and Saban complains or critiques something every week. If you're not getting better, you're getting worse....

when Kiffin arrived, those 2 walk-ons had been developed a lot better than any of the current offensive lineman on this roster. these kids have had very little physical, mental or football development since they arrived in Knoxville. Current staff playing total catch-up. Its not likely any of these can now be developed into SEC OL. Need to be recruited over, quickly.

That's troubling and scary to say the least. Especially since we are paying one former coach millions of $'s over the next several years.

I agree totally, and we certainly don’t want our program to become as successful as Alabama’s has, so let people continuously complain about the way Pruitt is too hard on these players
