Difference? Are you saying Saban took timeouts WITH the ball (because Ohio had the ball until they ran out the clock -- are you saying Jones should have called 2 timeouts BEFORE we go the ball back / ie, to get the ball back with 0 to's?).
You would think there was somebody on this staff who talked about time management in some of the staff meetings to improve our handling of situations like this. This isn't the first time we have seen them make questionable decisions like this. . .
Every decision a coach makes is "questionable." That doesn't mean it was made in error. It's just a difference of opinion.
Since we're playing the "what if?" game with the benefit of hindsight, we can say that it was absolutely the right decision. Ohio pinned them at the 1. If they had to run two or three plays out of their own endzone, or even worse, punt on a short snap, there's a whole lot of bad that could have happened.
... I am ok with the decision if he thought about it and thought it wasn't the right decision with the circumstances.
Based on the halftime interview, Jones seemed to want to reset given all the injuries and the teams mediocre effort and focus. ....
the difference is mindset....aggressive vs. conservative. sometimes it's the nature of the coach, sometimes it's situational football that dictates the approach....
I don't think he gives it that much thought. After a couple years watching and listening to CBJ, I believe him when he talks about system, scheme, and analytics. I believe he has a chart for most situations and goes with the odds on those charts. Unless he misreads them. I don't say this as a dig at CBJ, I just believe that's how he does things. He kind of reminds me of Quality/Lean/5S consultants. :ermm:goldv said:....ol;12975433if Butch had even thought about using the timeouts there.....
