Here is a list of possible coaching changes as we get closer to the time that firings and hirings will occur. Many of these moves will be made after bowls in terms of hiring because the better programs will be hiring away a coach who is in a bowl game. We cannot assume that all of the moves will be good for us! Charlie Weis struggling at ND is better than a great coach setting the world on fire up there, because depending on the offense they put in, TN could be head to head quite a lot with ND for kids. We both recruit nationally.
Notre Dame.
Charlie Weis is supposedly getting a buyout of up to 18 million. People say the decision has not already been made, but with the UConn loss, he has fallen below the mark set by the previous two fired coaches. They probably lose to Stanford and he is almost definitely gone either way. ND does not have to worry about money if they can attract the right guy to resurrect the program.
Urban Meyer is Catholic and grew up dreaming of the job. He says he did not accept the job years ago because he does not want to recruit nationally (Chicago Tribune says Urban Meyer still likes the Notre Dame job | Fighting Irish Gameday | Notre Dame Football), but with two National Championships and perhaps another coming, he will not have to be on the road and in the living rooms as much at ND as he would have coming from Utah. Other top candidates are rumored to be Bob Stoops and Kirk Ferentz while Cincinatti's Brian Kelly is rumored to be out of the running.
R. Friedgen
Maryland
Ralph in some ways has presided over the best years for the Terps, but lately things have gotten very bad. He is also extremely fat, which puts you in a bad spot when you try to preach discipline.
Mark Mangino
Kansas
They will be idiotic to fire the first guy to make football relevant in a very long time. He is also incredibly fat, and he has been accused of poking players which seems like much ado about nothing. As far as discipline, his football players and some basketball players did get injured in a brawl between the two.
Al Groh
Virginia
He is almost certainly fired. Former UT assistant Latrell Scott will be moving on as well, and may take Morgan Moses a highly regarded prep school OL UT has had some interest in, with him. Virginia is heading to an 8th loss against VT this weekend.
Dan Hawkins
Colorado
This poor guy was such a hot coach coming into this job. People keep remembering Dan M and thinking that the Buffs should be good. It takes recruiting lots of marginal minds with superior bodies to build that program and it is not an easy place to do anything from given the distance from super talent and the fact that when you find it you better be sure it is not Mormon, or Catholic cause you lose both. Hawkins also must face the fact that playing his son, whether it was right or wrong, is one of the reasons he may be fired.
Mike Sherman
Texas A&M
Beating Texas Tech probably saved his job. 3-5 in the conference (if they lose as expected to Texas) and 6-6 is not up to the standards expected by the Aggies, but his recruiting is still pretty good and he did not completely unravel. The 6 wins look better until you realize that he got drilled by everyone decent he played except Texas Tech, and lost to Colorado!
S. Kragthorpe
Louisville
This job may be one of the most attractive openings for hot up and coming guys. The bar set by Petrino has now been lowered, winning in that conference is not too incredibly difficult and the facilities are excellent.
Paul Wulff
Wash. State
They have slipped behind everyone in the Pac 10 and Boise State. Hard to bring kids into Pullman. He will probably get another year or two, but could get fired.
G. McMackin
Hawaii
June Jones he is not. This job seems sweet just because of how nice it would be to live there.
Memphis is open.
Lots of Fedex money but why would anyone want to take that job?
FSU has Jimbo Fisher as head coach in waiting, but needs to find a DC to keep things on track.
I cannot imagine that Richt keeps Willie M as UGA DC after this season ends, but people are saying that he is promising to do so!
If you want to add extra jobs feel free.
So far Fulmer is not a strongly confirmed rumor anywhere, although I will be very surprised if he is not in Tom Juricks office pitching him on why he should take over at Louisville.
