Coaching carousel success?

Has there ever been a program that has changed coaches like we have over the past few years and found success?

Bama is the best example. The decade before Saban go there I think they had 5 different coach’s and were a game under .500. But they finally got it right and the rest is history. Texas isn’t far behind us with all the coaching turnover they’ve had

Alabama doesn't count. Saban is genius at replacing coaches. The bigger topic is we are going backwards under Pruitt and Fulmer is not getting it. This 'quiet' off-season is such a joke. The state of Tennessee football is a joke. I hope Henry T came back to play for Freeze.

You've missed out on something very interesting. Read about it. Especially Mike Price. It just shows that Tennessee hasn't done everything embarrassing that can be done.

By the way, did you all see the SEC Shorts day before yesterday about the guy who's still mad that Alabama didn't hire Rich Rod? It was so eerily real. They do some quality acting. This was one of their videos loaded to facebook but not youtube. Maybe it's on youtube by now, I don't know. But it was darn good. And creepy.

Clemson and Georgia? Clemson has had two coaches in the past 22 years. UGA has had two coaches in the last 20. I don’t think they qualify. Tennessee has had 5 in the last 13 years.

Price never coached a game, that was a no brainer getting rid of him, Franchione left of his own accord, so between Stallings (96') and Saban (07'), Bama fired 2 coaches for performance.

If you throw in Shula (that’s 3) and then consider that kiffin quit on his own at tn you end up with a strikingly similar situation

It's 2 for performance (i.e. wins and losses/sucking)
Stallings resigned/retired in 96' (not W/L related)
DuBose was canned in 00' for sucking.
Franchione left after 02' for A&M (not W/L related)
Price hired and fired during the 02-03' off-season.
Shula fired after 06' for sucking.

You'll have to define "success" but the short answer is that the ONLY programs that have found success have given coaches 3 or 4 years to prove themselves and then made a change. Zook assembled the talent that Meyer won a NC with... he was fired after 3 years and did not have a losing season.

Texas A&M was probably the second best team in the SEC this year. Following Slocum, Francione got 4 years. Sherman a successful NFL coach got 3. Sumlin got 5. Now they have Fisher.

Clemson was more "patient" but you could argue they shouldn't have been. After Ford won a NC, Hatfield got 3 years. West got 5. Bowden got 9. Dabo was in trouble after his first two seasons and was saved by an outstanding 3rd season.

Can you name a coach in the modern era who did not show significant progress by year 3 that ended up successful?

I see. I misread your original post. So yes we’ve had more firings. But still very similar turnover. And very similar overall decade or wins/losses. Bama is definitely created a precedence for having turnover (but eventually) getting the right guy and returning to the top.
