Coaching Candidates

My vote is for David Cutcliffe. I want someone who is a stand up guy, has roots in UT, and a proven coach.

right now ESPN is saying that Fulmer has been contacted about AD or HC. Not sure which. If they hire him for HC, we're doomed. IT's not like you can bring him back to smooth the situation then send him on his way. If you bring him back, he will be here until he retires.....

I personally think that would be a terrible idea. Fulmer lost it as a championship type coach and let the program die from laziness and neglect. Why reward that??

Calhoun is an equally terrible idea -- triple option, 'nuff said.

Any head coach of a top tier program would be leaving his school in the same recruiting lurch we now find ourselves in -- do we really want a HC that would do what clk just did to us?? I think not.

If not Muschamp, or a very short list of qualified assistant coaches, I think the only viable options are either a pro retread or Kippy Brown.

Personally, the more I think about Kippy, the better I like the idea. His credentials as a coach and a motivator are impeccable.

Just my opinions, though.

Kippy would be a much better hire than Calhoun--I am not bowled over the credentials of the air force coach. What has he done to prove he can win games in the SEC?? Nothing. He was 8-5 at Air Force last year--whoppee. Yea, spent time in the NFL, but not very successfully or at a very high level, i don't think. Kippy was an NFL OC with Miami. Plus, Kippy is here now.

I would take Fulmer before Calhoun or Leach.

I prefer Muschamp, Smart, or a good coach from a lesser conference. These guys have something to prove. I would also not be too upset about Kippy though he would need an extra all star supporting cast.

Gruden and other all star ex-NFL coaches have achieved everything there is to achieve. I question their motivation on the recruiting trail and such.

Kippy, with Smart, Chaney, and Garner would be just fine with me. We could round out a nice staff with that core.

I would take a stand up cardboard poster of the General before bringing back Foolmer!:)

Calhoun's offense will not sell to current or future prospects in this part of the country...

Two Words: Butch Davis

I think UT could sway him, and I think he would be exactly what the doctor ordered. Good coach, great recruiter. Think about it...

I finallly just got on today and i am ticked as anyone. But the more and more u listen to Kippy he really sounds like the man at this point.

I am a Vols Fan living in Iowa (also a Hawkeyes fan) There is a great young coach here in B-10 country that would make a great HC at a more premire school. Pat Fitzgerald at Northwestern is an awsome coach and a good guy but maybe tough to get away from NW. Thoughts?

Hyams said Cutcliffe, Tommy Tuberville or Kippy Brown. Will he be on target like last time when he said Butch Davis would be announced the next day as the coach of the Vols.
I saw that the early enrollees don't like the idea of Calhoun at all and some said they are out if he is the coach. I don't believe he would run the option at tennessee. Could you imagine Tyler Bray running the triple option.

He's a Northwestern guy like Fulmer was our guy no way he would leave Northwestern!

Speaking of assistant coaches, what about Bud Foster?

Good luck getting him out of Blacksburg for anything less than a head coaching job. Many have tried. All have failed.

If you're willing to pull the trigger of putting him in the corner office, then hats off to you. You'd be getting a phenomenal coach, and he's more than deserving of a shot. I'd be sad to see him go, but I have all the confidence in the world that Torrian Gray is ready to step up to the DC role at VT.

If we hire any current college head coach, we will have someone cut in the same mold as the SOB that we are now cussing. Someone who was presented with a "better" opportunity who took it.
