Coaching Candidates

Gruden would be the best hire you guys could get. I doubt he leaves his TV land though. Muschamp won't leave. Peterson won't leave. Vols should go after Leach imo.

Skip Holtz, has the youth, knowledge and experience that we need to keep the kids that are here, here and the ones that have said they are coming.

I think UT's best bet is Randy Edsall -- this guy is all class, similar to Bruce Pearl. Pearl and Edsall aren't far and away the best coaches out there but they're class acts. They'll win wherever they go because of it.

I can't believe some of you want Leach, I seriously doubt he can compete in the SEC, he certainly isn't a very good recruiter and the damage that has been done by the previous two coaches demands that we bring in quality recruits.

Peterson or Patterson is about as good as we can do, let's face it Peterson isn't going anywhere. Why are people obsessing about Gruden, talk about a pipe dream. This recruiting class is through, best we can do is salvage a little of it and try to get the coach in here who won't be looking to jump ship if a more glamorous job opens up. Patterson is my first option, from there all the realistic choices out there aren't very appealing to me.

Had a dream last night that after winning the SB this year, Peyton announced that he was retiring from the NFL, said it was no longer a challenge, that he was looking for a new challenge, and announced himself as the new head coach of the Volunteers.

(*sigh*) Too bad it was only a dream.

Marrone, Edsall, Muschamp. Leach is smart, and he got screwed by TT, but he seems a loose cannon....

Muschamp would be my first choice....but then when Mack Brown retires, we are in this mess again.

Good luck, Vols. We went through this ourselves and I know it's no fun at all. I'm of the school of thought which likes strong rivals in a strong conference; I would like to see you get a good coach out of this mess. Personally, I believe you are ultimately going to be better off. Kiffen was sort of the TO of coaches - undeniable talent, but with an uncontrollable mouth and a propensity for self-destruction.

I hear you all saying Muschamp and Gruden, but I wouldn't sneer at Patterson.

Oh, well. Your move. Again, good luck.

Why do people insist that Muschamp has loyalty to Texas? I'd be more afraid of him going to Georgia.

Also, why is Calhoun getting so much love? If we were going after an attainable MWC guy, why not Kyle Whittingham (sp?)?

I don't see what the big hype on Muschamp is all about. Just because he's done well with the Texas defense doesn't mean he could be a good head coach. I think they need to go up to a head coach thats proven he can win and say "The job is yours if you want it, just tell me what to put on the check".

Anybody suggesting another team's current head coach needs to stop being pissed off at Kiffin. Because you're asking your candidate to screw over his current school's fans in exactly the same way that we just got done ourselves.

I'm not saying we shouldn't do it, but if we do then we have absolutely no right to whine about what happened to us.

The reason Knoxville would want Muschamp is because he is well known and would be able to recruit the south witch in college is almost as important as being a great head coach. If we can come up with a well known replacement quickly I believe we will be better off than we were when Kiffin was here.

UT made a mistake hiring a guy who regionally was not a good fit for UT and UT not a good fit for him. East Tennessee is God's country, it is beautiful and a wonderful place to live, for some people, not all people. A west coast California guy with a model like wife were never going to be comfortable in Knoxville, at least compared to a good west coast job.

Your next coach probably should not be Gruden, who did California with the Raiders and then down on the cost of Florida at Tampa. You need a guy who is at home in East Tennessee, as well as a good football coach. A number of coaches would come and take the money and the job because it is a good job. But, some would love the job and the area, and others who would take it would be susceptible to do exactly what Lane did, when a job in an area suitable to their personality and lifestyle opens up.

As a Gator fan, I hope your AD throws a bunch of money at another coach who will be tempted by the money and prestige of the job, but is not suitable to the area.
