Coaching Breakdown........

I'm sorry VD, but a staff that lacks any integrity is not a good staff, I don't care what message board you're reading. Kiffin is/was an embarassment, and, quite frankly, has never proven a damn thing. He is a poor leader and a poor human being, and I continue to be amazed by your defense of him.

DD or no DD, I thank God Kiffin is gone. I only regret it wasn't sooner.

Kiffin leaving was an automatic upgrade!

Who do you think will have a better record in year 3 and 4 (giving time for both Coaches to put their signature on their team)? Though I hope he never wins another game, my money is on Kiffin.

Kiffin should...They play a lot softer schedule than Dooley and Tenn. does!

Kiffin and the staff before obviously could recruit, and had the players believing in them and the system. Kiffin was a joke as far as his PR skills, saying some of what he said and then blaming it on the fact UT needed that sort of press to get the name out their. Monte is and will always be a legend in the NFL, but that does not always mean it will translate to success in the college ranks, we were awful against the spread, UT has always had great defense, no matter who the coach is. Coach O is a disgrace to college football, but he recruits well and is a solid line coach.

Dooley is supposed to be a great recruiter and LSU fans will tell you he brought in their talent to win the BCS. Will he recruit well here,?????. Can he coach in the S.E.C.,??????. A lot of question marks surrounding Dooley, so we need to give the man a chance. Wilcox IMO is the better COLLEGE football defensive coordinator, and the man is not one dimensional, he will prove to be one of the best within the next few years. Chaney has a proven track record and although his offenses are not prolific, they get the job done when ran properly, he is a great asset to UT. Baggett, no need to explain just look who he has coached. Smith has also coached some pretty high profile guys and played the position, not sure how well he can recruit, but when he throws out names of he has coached I am sure he will do fine. Joseph from what I am reading is quite the players coach and should do well in recruiting.

Cannot say how this new staff will be until after next season, let's give them a chance. All I can say is at least we do not have to worry about what violations we're breaking, that's always a plus. The ball is in Dooleys court, we will find out soon enough if he can handle the presurre and be a legit coach.

didn't boise state beat the oregon team that would've beaten a monte schemed defense. we did not stop the run last year. we did not sack the qb. dan williams is a 1st rd pick because he worked hard. robert ayers ringing any bells. we are better off. now we will show ut videos to hype up the ut program

This is nowhere close to true, but at least Wilcox, even though he is coming from the WAC, is at least coming from a team that actually wins in the WAC, unlike the guy who hired him.

Your right it isnt.

Wilcox over Monte everyday of the week and twice on sunday. Why? Look at what Wilcox did with less at Boise and look what Monte did with more at UT. I know you hate Dooley and every coach associated with him but accept that Monte wasnt all he was talked up to be. Wilcox will make everyone forget Monte ever paced the sidelines at UT.

Agree.

Ed wasnt all the was talked up to be with the exception to the recruiting front. Monte didnt do anything really amazing either.

Then you both have failed to read my post.

Go to a message board comprised of people from around the NCAA and claim this staff is better than last years. See how long it takes you to get laughed off the board.

5150's hate of Kiffin is so great it prevents him from seeing the quality of the staff he assembled.

That staff lost two games Fulmer's staff would have won....

I think Dooley has hit a homerun with Wilcox, and I think this is, so far, the shrewdest move by CDD so far.

I think Dooley knew the NCAA landscape of "up and coming" coaches - the new generation of guys who are eventually going to fill the big positions at big time college football schools (sadly, other than ours in a few years, but most agree that's a positive). I think the name recognition might not be there, but I think everyone has the right stuff.

In my personal opinion:

HC - Dooley Kiffin ++
OC - Chaney
OL - Hiestand ++ Cregg
QB - Hinshaw Chaney/Reaves +
RB - Chaney Gran +++
WR - Baggett ++ Wilson
DC - Wilcox Kiffin ++
DL - Smith Orgeron +++
LB - Thompson
DB - Joseph + WMG
ST - Russell Gran +
S&C - Wylie + Ausmus

I know I'm a couple pages late, but are the plus signs (+) indicative of how much better you think they are compared with their counterpart? If so, interesting approach...

Are you forgetting that Tennessee is in the SEC, and USC is in the Pac-10? :crazy:

UT finished 17th nationally in total defense last year. And that was with playing 3rd string linebackers for about half the season. You tell me how Wilcox is going to match or exceed that stat with no Eric Berry and 2 new starting DTs.

How was Fulmer going to beat UCLA and Auburn when he couldn't beat those teams in '08 despite the fact that neither one had a winning record? Both teams were significantly improved last year.

I don't think that's the question. I believe he was asking which staff is better, regardless of the current players versus last year's players. I just don't see how anyone can say Wilcox will be better than Monte. I think Wilcox will be good, but Monte was a genius and was exceptional at scheming (Ole Miss game aside, of course, but there were other factors there).

Dudly, look at how we fared against Bama and Florida with much less talent and depth on defense. How was he not what he was talked up to be? Maybe if he strapped on a helmet and leveled Tebow or Ingram himself. That would have been a sight.

How did that work out for USC and UT during the decade of the 90's? :crazy:

Title thread Mr. Dad, where does it saying anything about the 90s? I know you must be pretty old, but stop living in the past. To even compare the pac10 to the sec is very ignorant in this time of day. Welcome to the 21st century!
