Can we name any?

Seems like all anyone has complained about since we last beat Florida. "I can't stand the coach speak"

Said it for Fulmer
Said it for Kiffin
Said it for Dooley
Said it for Jones

Hell, can someone tell me what coach y'all want to listen to? Do you prefer to hear the entire game plan prior to kick off? I'm sure Florida would like that too.

Anyways, thought I'd start a thread just to complain and fit in. Whiners gonna whine.

I just want individuals that work like heck and show continuous improvement week in and week out.

You mean coaches generally, or guys who have coached for Tennessee?

Best I can tell, the only coaches who don't use coach speak on a regular basis were Spurrier and Les Miles.

Notice how people only rip Butch for his cliches and coach-speak when we are losing or don't "look good." I don't care how they speak - just win baby.

McElwain doesn't do a lot of it... Muschamp did. His favorite (one I heard on the Butch Jones presser earlier a couple of times) was "we'll get that corrected"...never did.

Coach Jim definitely does. He never speaks directly to a situation and dodges questions. Hell, he closed off practice to the media for an entire week.

If people's problem with coaches speak is lack of direct talk and access, Jim is the worst.

I'm not sure "coach speak" is an accurate description for Dooley.
His stories were something but not sure that's the most accurate description.

Let's just be realistic here; if we beat UF 45-0, hundreds of Negavols will start threads like; why couldn't we do this....., But APP STATE......, Debord still sucks here is why......, the bricks arent stacking up fast enough, CBJ should take the OC job at Syracuse. I could go on BUT, LET'S JUST BEAT THE LIVING $HIT OUT OF FLORIDA!

Saban has his tendencies, but I wouldn't classify as coach speak. His comment after the Kiffin tirade was funny, as was his comment regarding IVs during the Mississippi game. Also I remember people thought Dooley was 'candid' during the first couple of years.

Most use cliches to varying degrees, but Butch has maybe taken it to a new level.

Coach could communicate like Helen Keller as long as the wins pile up.

It's interesting that when a politician--someone we NEED to know the truth about--is instead very disciplined in what he says, he is praised for "staying on-message."

When a coach--someone whose words to the public have very little impact on how well he does his actual job of recruiting and coaching--is disciplined and stays on-message, he's criticized for using "coach-speak."

The final irony is when fans hear players "winging it" in an interview and saying what they actually think and feel, they will be criticized for it (deservedly) 90% of the time--and then fans will question the coaches for letting their players get in front of a microphone and talk off the top of their heads!

:dunno:

Butch didn't use coach speak when he said he would educate everyone about the read option and ppl got furious. That's why coaches stay on message.

Same level of importance as the "third down for what" controversy. :boredom:

I always thought Dooley's were pretty entertaining. You never knew when he would go into some random story or explanation. I think there is a YouTube video out there that has a compilation of some of his tangents.

Dooley was hilarious. About as far from coach speak as you can get. Not a good coach, but definitely funny.
