Coaches that turned it around in year 4?

Stanford was 1-11 when he took over. Tennessee coaches don't have anywhere near that challenge.

There was zero expectation to win at Stanford. A coach could go 5 years winning 8 or 9 games and Noone would bat an eye.

8 wins in year 3 was like winning the super bowl for a team that went 1 and 11.

Barry Alvarez

Wisconsin Badgers (Big Ten Conference) (1990–2005)
1990 Wisconsin 1–10 0–8 10th
1991 Wisconsin 5–6 2–6 T–8th
1992 Wisconsin 5–6 3–5 T–6th
1993 Wisconsin 10–1–1 6–1–1 T–1st W Rose 5

Barry averaged about 8 wins a year in Big 10 which would probably equate to 7 wins a year in the SEC. The only guy I can think of to have really have national success in the last 40 years after stinking for three years is Bill McCartney at Colorado.

There's several examples here, but that won't matter to a lot. I understand we want to win now, but Butch walked into a different mess than other coaches some are comparing him to. Regardless of what some think, Kiff and dools killed us.

The thing to remember is this thread is devoted to the exception to the rule.

It can happen, just not likely.

"Expectation" wasn't part of the scenario...you're changing things around.

He's had 3 recruiting classes to date....his QB, his best cornerback, his best linebacker, one of his starting DTs, his starting nickle back, his starting right tackle, his starting right guard and the guy who was supposed to be his best WR all came from the 2013 class....his first class.

He has alot of bests, just no one behind them to fall back on... Depth is our problem... That's why our 4th quarters look like hell...

I didn't change it around, I compounded my refute.

1. He had more success in year 3 than Tennessee has had in 8 years
2. No pressure to win at Stanford so the leash is longer

NO, NO, NO... Don't you understand? No coach in the history of sports has taken over a more difficult situation. It will take at least 10 recruiting classes to fix. Maybe even 15.

Much like us 3 years ago? and Spurrier was a proven coach.

Some of our fans called 6-6 and a crappy bowl game a turn around. I guess when your expectations equal a dumpster fire then it was a resounding success. Sign that dude up for 5 more years!

His mess was nowhere near as bad as the one Shula inherited. Bama just didn't tolerate mediocre seasons and sob stories about being undermanned. So they canned him and got a proven winner, sparring no expense.

How about Butch somehow goes 8-5 (losing the bowl game) and then next year has a losing record like 5-7...would you want him gone? I imagine this place would go nuts.

That's Gary Pinkel, 3 out of 4 of his first four years at Mizzou he had a losing record and was never better than .500 in the B12 conference (12-20).

But I've not seen one person compare Butch to shula over the past few weeks. They're comparing him to coaches who took over programs that had talent. Butch wasn't so fortunate.

Nobody said that it can't happen. Mathematically we can still go 9-3.

I will put my opinion out there that they will not win 8 games or even 7.

I have already stated that this team has zero confidence and will absolutely not win a road game this year. Yes that includes Kentucky.

We will beat north Texas, Candy and probably usc jr.

It will be a stretch to honestly look at our situation and find a solid pick for win number 6.

I had this team and it's coach figured out after they blew the Oklahoma game.

I know that is easy to say now, but let my prediction for the rest of the season back up my words.

Mark it down. So let it be written so let it be done.
