If Fulmer is really at a loss for who he wants to hire at this point, I would expect to see him head off to the national coaches convention this week. It would only make sense so it's something to watch for.

We've been discussing the Doug Matthews comments in another thread and here are a few more of his opinions as they were presented to me.

-Believes we end up with Loeffler or at least one coach from that Michigan staff.

-Believes we get one RB coach from another SEC school. It's apparent here, from reports we've heard since, that he was referring to Stan Drayton. He obviously didn't want to mention the name yet.

-Matthews said that Fulmer is not overly concerned with the timing as it relates to recruiting because he believes we are in good shape on the offensive side of the ball

When is the convention? Who normally goes? I'm a bit clueless, do any other Vol coaches go?

Seems to me we shouldn't be too confident... those words can always come back to haunt you.

Far as what's been reported Fulmer isn't going. What makes you think he might??
I don't know for sure. But if he has no 'list' as you contend. It would be a good place to speak to potential candidates.

I added 'as it relates to recruiting' to that last part. I should have proofed that more carefully.

Once again, what conference is it and who normally attends? I apologize for my ignorance, is this like SEC press day? Assuming no players attend, do others from the coaching staff?

at this point and if no announcement is made tomorrow, I think Phil has to go and find someone. As far as us being set on the O-side of the ball with recruiting, well, that's kind of sad.

I'am glad he thinks so. So now he needs to get to work on the defensive side of the ball namely linemen.

That does have a very complacent tone to it. I cannot imagine Pete, Urban or Mack being satisfied with a recruiting class like UT is looking at right now.

I'm disappointed in you guys. I fully expected to return today and find that y'all had this thing figured out...

Now I gotta wait and see.

I think that it may end up being Adkins and frankly, that makes me sick to my stomach.

why on earth are some of you so suprised that Fulmer is satisfied with the way things are? he's been this way 4 many years now and some still have the damn orange sunglasses on. the sun has set and ain't coming out any time soon. sorry.

thank you....do you think Pete Carroll quits recruiting QBs because he has a couple of blue chippers sitiing on the sideline? If Phil really said that, then I dont know what to say, we'd better average 42 points a game next year. This kind of comment helps me to understand why we always have a great recruiting year followed by a mediocre one.

I don't understand why we're not in the running for more D-line prospects.. if we're in the running for anybody, I haven't heard about it. You think these players would be drooling over the prospect of playing here... anybody with size and speed is probably going to get some playing time right away.

Well, for me the entire process obviously begins and ends with Fulmer and the amount of control he is willing to relinquish to get the right guy.

Initially his verbage was on the money. His excitement over the prospects of "mixing things up" on the hill had me excited as well. In his more recent interviews he seems to be regressing a bit. In other words, I fear that the right person for the job is the brilliant coordinator who is willing to do everything Fulmer would do in every situation......

I hope I don't sound short sighted. Initially, for some reason I thought Fulmer might loosen the reigns a bit. With Spence turning down offer number two, I fear that instead of becoming more introspective as to why that might be happening, CPF will circle the wagons and find a "yes" man.

CPF is in a precarious spot. It is not as easy as it looks. By keeping his post, he has earned the right to make this decision.

At the very least it lets Vereen off of the hook....

I think you hit the nail on the head, Lex, Phil's scared guys off during the interviews. Just look at Cignitti and Spence. I also find it disheartening that Phil went back to Spence and upprd the ante, only to be rebuffed. Why does Phil have to beg a Clemson coach to come to the Hill?
