Coaches and talent

Jimmys and Joes, not Xs and Os.. Get great players have great teams, get good players, have good teams, get average players have average teams,, When the injuries come in mass, great teams are still good, good teams are average, and average teams will suck

Boise State stands in stark contrast to your post. They are fortunate to get 4 stars what few they do and mostly are a mid to low range 3 star program. Yet find a way year in and year out to play solid football, compete and win against the big boys from time to time, and frequently these past ten years have appeared ranked higher in the polls than much more talented UT teams.

It is about x's and o's, but the ones who achieve consistently have coaching and development as big part. You think Butch would have had the guts to do what Saban did and switch QB's...that's why they won...he made a daring decision, backed up with coaching and development. A frosh doesn't come in and win the game like that without development. This is where 2018 staff should far outshine previous 3 regimes.

Butch had no imagination whatsoever; you could write a book on simple adjustments that he never made. Worn out defense stemming from a hurry up offense ... rushing to go three and out. Never really using depth to give starters a break and backups some experience. Continuing with the same plays that hadn't worked. Every now and then a new player would come in and everyone (probably including Butch) seemed to wonder where this guy had been, and then as likely he'd disappear again. It just goes on and on.

With a new coaching staff I was wondering if you see players that didn't shine the last few years make major improvements now. With actual coaching and game planning the product may be vastly different. This maybe the reason for the exodus of players for the NFL. They are worried that with actual coaching they may fade behind.

Vastly different, huh? What's next? Scoring more points than our opponents increases our chances of being victorious? 3 players does not make an exodus. And that last sentence is just absurd, especially for those 3.

After last season, the returning players better improve. At this moment, they is one returning player I feel absolutely confident in retaining his starting spot. Every other player has a serious need to put the extra work in. Until we know who the completed staff is, I can't really get fully inspired. I believe all that is left is a WR coach and perhaps additional supports staff and analysts. But knowing who they are might give some insight on how high to set our hopes.

But those who don't improve? There could be your exodus. Too bad Charlton Heston and Yul Brenner are no longer with us to lead them away or chase them in chariots. But I am sure Elmer Bernstein's soundtrack is still preserved, so we will have proper background music for it.

Newsflash. Butch is gone. Get over it. The only thing going on and on at this point is your whining about it. Everything you are pointing out is yesterday's news. We know all that. So if you are pointing this out for someone who just came out of a coma, give them a phone call.

Think it might have more to do with...if I stay for my senior season I'm going to have to learn a whole new offense or defense just for 1 season, or just go on to the NFL draft and not risk injury as well.

If you went to the first game in Atlanta, when they got lucky to squeak by GTech...you could see it on the field, and feel it in the stadium, it was like they weren't there heart-wise committed per se...and so went the season and story...maybe it was a team leadership issue, maybe coaches...dunno, I'm just sayin'.

I think it is called "buy-in". Butch had it teamwide early on, but, seems to have lost it as time went on. I think Josh Dobbs was key to maintaining it while he was on the team.

Boise Doesn’t play Georgia, Bama, TAM, Florida, South Carolina , Aub every year and many times on consecutive weeks, so yes you got to have studs if you want to win em all, and we expect to win every game we play

And I'd think your lineup takes more of a beating over an SEC season, adding more durability to the equation.

With actual coaching there may be players that were not playing to their full potential or slacking. With coaches now that will light a fire under them they may be as good if not better than the ones that shined during Jones's tenure.

oh, i got it the first time. it's just not a well put together thought.

Spring practice will make more more leave

I agree with this. These boys are in for a shock. At the end of spring practice, we will have a roster of guys who really, really want to be at Tennessee and nowhere else. The practices, the summer workouts, and, finally, fall camp will completely change this team...okay, that's a mighty hope, not a prediction.

If we get things squared away up front, we will compete for the SEC East right away.

This is why the staff, after assessing things and lack of by the previous staff, is recruiting heavy up front!

From RTI, Coach Pruitt and Company have a very well decorated staff to coach these young men..."Counting Pruitt, Tennessee’s new coaching staff has 22 division titles as coaches. So all in all, Pruitt and his staff are bringing 10 national titles, 14 conference championships, and 22 division crowns to Knoxville this upcoming season. And that doesn’t include titles won by some of these coaches when they were players".
I am looking forward to the coming years of good coached football!
