Coach Tyndall on Tony Basilio show...

Couple things to remember here, folks:
1. He's not gonna get on the radio and say "we're bringing in a bunch of mediocre guys so we have enough warm bodies on the roster". Of course he thinks his guys are good.
2. Tyndall is confident all the time. I've been saying this since he was hired. Ya'll just aren't used to it because Cuonzo was the polar opposite of that and Jones literally says nothing that isn't drenched or hedged with coach speak (though that is smart of him). Serrano is like this, too. I personally like it. He reminds me of Chip Kelly in that way.
3. I don't think he'll be as open in the future as he is now (re: "they've all called wanting to come here"). I'd venture to guess most coaches are not prepared for the level and intensity of media coverage and fan passion for Tennessee athletics. We really do have the best fans in college athletics, but coaches here are under the microscope in a real way. He probably isn't used to everything he says being dissected on message boards and in media, but he'll learn.

Just enjoy the ride, no reason at this point to over analyze everything that is bball. GoVols and who ever commits to be a VFL!

Kiffin made some promises also. He delivered and got us a good recruiting class in short notice.

We almost beat the #1 team in the nation in Alabama that season and the game was in Tusculoosa too.

He also delivered and brought the coaching staff that he promised.

Too bad the recruiting class was just put together with band-aids and didn't last...

Not sure if you think I was but I wasn't referring to Kiffin. I was referring to Dooley who would usually rather take the 2-3 star players from Georgia because they were easier to land then 4-5 star players. I think Dooley thought if we weren't the clear favorite to land a kid then why bother trying. That's a bit of a generalization of course.

I really don't know the rules, but is there anything wrong with a prospect calling a coach? Educate me.

He is technically not supposed to have any contact with signed individuals until they are released from their LOI. It could be considered tampering, but I'm sure it happens during all coaching changes.

I didn't have too much optimism or excitement going into next year a couple months ago...but since bringing in CDT I'm getting both both know and I'm ready to see all these new incoming pieces and see this press.

This. No reasonable fan expects to win every game but we should expect consistent effort, not up and down like a yo-yo game in and game out.

"Dave Hart has gone and done it again! You have to love it! The guy is living right! Dave Hart is rolling!!! He tries his best to screw it up but he keeps right on winning with these hires!!!!Hart wanted to keep Derek Dooley around in his final year when 99.99% of those involved in the situation had already moved on. From that nearly fatal mistake of lobbying to rehab Dooley, Hart led a search that ended up on Charlie Strong by way of Mike Gundy. Both guys would've been horrible fits here. They're already grumbling about how prickly Strong is toward boosters. His eventual hire? Butch Jones!!! A PR giant and more importantly a recruiting machine!!! Couldn't have designed a better coach for UT at this point in time!! And Donnie Tyndall? What a great fit over Michael White! Hart wanted White but he got the right guy! Michael White is private-school, silver-spooned arrogant. Guys like that don't mix in these parts. Donnie Basketball Tyndall.... He literally couldn't have made a better hire!!!Tyndall wasn't anointed by anyone in the coaching profession like Michael White. There were no Coach's K's calling on Tyndall's behalf. Tyndall played his college ball at Morehead State and has been in the SEC before. I'll bet his staff reflects just that! He runs and presses. This style of play appeals to folks here. He lets guys shoot it on the move. He's going to remind folks of Gregg Marshall in his approach. This guy is a man. He's had very little help or push along the way. UT fans will identify with him right from the jump. While Michael White was going to look at getting out for Ole Miss down the line, Donnie Basketball has already gotten above his alma mater in his profession. Tennessee will be the BEST JOB Donnie Tyndall has ever had! Love this in any hire!"
Tony Basilio

I figured a Basilio thread would be the place to ask this question: Am I the only one who thinks Tyndall looks like a young Paul Bearer?
