Lots of names being tossed around. One thing that seems to be lost on most here is the fact that there has to be mutual interest. Some have suggested throwing money at it, well that didn't work. See Mike Gundy. The person has to actually want to come here.

Everyone is simply assuming that no one has tested the waters for, Miles, Sumlin, etc and so on. Sure they could go to each one of them and the spectacle of being turned down would be just as harmful.

I mean has it occurred to anyone that these few Coach's that they are contacting are the only ones that have remotely expressed interest?

Lots of people advocating for Tee Martin. Love the guy, but the program is not in a place where he could be successful. We would basically be setting him up to fail before his career even begins. Why do that to him?

Kiffin? Too many burned bridges and he would never get the support of a lot of fans and especially boosters.

We may simply have to take what we can get.

Don’t fret. Coach is already locked up, just can’t be announced until after Saturday’s games. You’ll be happy.

here is some interesting info I found concerning recent coach hiring. Shows how hard it is to hire a good coach:

There were 15 coaches hired by FBS programs after the 2014 season. Now in their third seasons, only two from the Power 5 — Michigan's Jim Harbaugh and Wisconsin's Paul Chryst — have winning records. A total of seven have regressed. McElwain, Anderson, and Riley are already fired.

edit: actually 3 Power 5 coaches including Narduzzi @ Pitt

Not sure why some of these people think that its simply a matter of throwing money. Heck Harbaugh is feeling the heat. No hire is a guarantee of success.

Just bring Flumer back and start a process to train a new coach. Provide a great staff of coaches that can recruit around him.Coaches that bleed orange/VFL we need to get back to Tennessee football the Tennessee way. This happens with Tennessee people. We have a source in Flumer he has done it. We can put this baby to bed with Flumer starting the process of getting Tennessee football back on the map.I for one would be excited because I know it would work.I'm not saying Flumer long term I'm saying let him start the process for recovery if we can't find a winning coach.

Ok enough of this. I dont want to know the name. But if you are gonna come with this then tell us something.

If a coach is locked up, then why has the AD even reached out to guys like Gundy? Why was there a phone interview with Brohm? Why offer Cuttcliffe? Why show interest in Morris and Martin? Just explain this.

I would be honored to accept the coaching job. I'll take a 4 year 10 million dollar deal and bring in some top of the line coordinators. I will gaurantee an SEC east title in 2 years and a SEC championship by year 4. I will bring back how Tennessee football was played in the 90's.

It was Baylor. It was 15 years ago. And he did just have a hand in beating Bama.

I am not saying he should have been a top 10 choice but given the way this thing has gone down I would rather roll the dice on him with a top end OC than bringing in Doeren.

If you're gonna fail, may as well fail with a former player that's actually trying as opposed to another mediocre s**t heel who is teetering on being fired from NC ST anyway and just looking to cash a check.

I'd rather just keep Brady Hoke

Do you have official word that offers have been made to these individuals, or are you going by erroneous media reports in the last few days that have all turned out to be wrong? No need for any AD to seriously engage a backup candidate when they already have their guy. When you finish the search early enough but can’t make an official announcement until that person finishes their current season, you have to use diversionary tactics to distract people.
