There has been a lot of talk about coaches not wanting to come to TN for various reasons.
I ask myself, why would any coach not want to make 3-8 million dollars?. Win or fail?.
I truly think the reason some coaches turn down our offer is because they are afraid of the competition in the SEC.
The SEC is damn tough and everyone knows it.
After a romp in the SEC if they fail, they will be forever looked upon as a failure.
So why not just stay in a conference where the competition is less fierce and continue making 2-3 million.
Everyone knows SEC fans can be rough on failing coaches.

There are plenty who want that.

Just no one you would want.

This is just like recruiting. There’s a lot of good reasons to play football at Tennessee. But, there are a lot of good reasons to play elsewhere too.

Everyone is trying to sign the 5*, not just Tennessee

Mathews said job is more attractive this week, than last...coaches knew Currie was dead man wal, ing, after Sciano deal

Many would come

ESPN just thinks we should bulldoze Knoxville - funny thing is they should be more worried about their jobs right now than the one open at UT

How long can we realistically wait to hire a coach? With early recruiting this year, we really need to get someone in place within the next couple days or at the most by the end of the coming week, right?

Playing bama/Florida/UGA every year is not an attractive schedule. But a confident, competitive coach should welcome the challenge. The false narrative about a “rabid fanbase” is just perpetuated by the idiots in the media. We loyally support our team and have actually been pretty patient the past 10 years. Any SEC fanbase would react the same way. Look at UF and McElwain. They ran off a coach who had won the east recently. Bama fans were miserable and vocal in the 90s. Just no twitter to publicize it

I think the bigger thing is our dysfunctional athletic department (and boosters). We’ve had a steady stream of bad publicity from them going back to Hamilton. Nobody wants to work for an incompetent booster/AD.

If it was easy to attract good coaches to UT each of the recent hires would have been a good coach.

Kiffin, Dooley, Jones, etc. are not coaches most fans would have chosen.

Two AD's hired these guys. A new AD was also struggling to hire a good coach.

Can't believe all three AD's were inept and clueless.

They were trying to sell a program which obviously is not perceived to be as good as most fans would like to believe.

Generally people that dont have millions of dollars tend to think money solves everything.

For people already making millions, not everything is about money.

Take Patterson for instance. He is beloved in Fort Worth, makes several million a year in a stable program, great in state recruting in a relatively low pressure job. TCU isnt the ecomonic engine of the region as UT is in Knoxville. If TCU performs bad on a Saturday, its big news for a few hours because attention shifts to Cowboys/Stars/Mavrricks the following day. In Knoxville, the only focus of a whole week is the last game played.

Also consider Tee Martin. He is building a great reputation for himself in a stable program that is one of the most storied in college football history. Why take a chance on a lateral move to a program that is a complete mess? Look at the hit Shoops reputation has taken at Tennessee. Tee has to look long term. Not win a press conference and bring UT fans together. As he knows those same fans will turn on him in 3 years if things dont go as planned.

Tennessee isn't the only place to pay 3-8 million dollars per year. I just don't get how our millions are so much better than some one else's millions.

If you had a manager from a company recruiting you to work underneath him, but you knew that he was likely getting fired, then would you go work there?

This line of thinking brought us Dooley.

Ideally we get a great coach announced this week. If we can't do that, a great coach that takes a bit longer is much better than a crappy coach in a hurry.

The problem is their perceived bosses at UT. As displayed over the last 2 weeks, who would want to work for these clowns? Whoever the coach is he will need support from these people in order to be successful. Currie/Davenport/Haslem were perceived by potential coaches correctly.

If $42 million is still on the table, you may as well wait for Marrone or an NFL guy after Christmas.

Not just any recruit, but the whole class isn't worth the right hire. At least the best hire we can get.

IM so blessed that my God is a forgiving God! people hold grudges and will not forgive those who make a mistake. That is where hate comes from. Lane did UT wrong i agree but forgive and forget. I was mad then too. Now is the time to do the right thing and forgive him and give him another chance. You cant say he is immature because he uses twitter but wait other well respected people use twitter who are mature ie Phillip fulmer,Trump etc on and on.That is a weak excuse.Give him a change to instill excitement rite away and the university will benefit greatly. Seats will be Filled just as they were in 09.

Have aq blessed day......Go Vols!

Fulmer got a second chance after being fired and collecting his buyout. I doubt Phil going to bash Kiffin like Mathews did this morning but I doubt he’ll hire him either.

Yeah I guess that’s a good point. I stand corrected.
