Coach Pruitt: OUR Coach

As I was sitting in the stands pulling for the Vols vs WVU, like most of us do for any sporting event, I found myself questioning some of the calls both on offense and defense. But alas, I had to stop myself from doing that because this past Spring, Vol Nation and various other groups and people with voices in East Tennessee, took it upon ourselves to say HELL NO to Greg Schiano. Result: Coach Jeremy Pruitt, who is truly OUR COACH. Never before has a fan base ever been so involved with the selection of their head coach and while we did not place a "W" on the record, for the first game of the year against an excellent team, I was proud of the effort the Vols and coaching staff produced. Penalties were almost non existent. Our QB exceeded the expectations of many. Our D did look pretty good for a large portion of the game, esp considering the firepower of WVU.

Am looking forward to continued improvement this year and am proud to back CJP, our coach.

I'm looking forward to Coach Pruitt turning the program around also

Tennessee has an abundance of good whisky to make the turnaround less painfull

I was thinking the outcome must have been very hard for him since he has been used to teams with almost no losses. But he took responsibility, like a man. He's THE MAN!!! Better days ahead for the Vols.

Post game and presser today were both filled with matter of fact statements by Pruitt on where we need to get better. Truthful evaluation and teaching will get us to where we want to be faster than sunshine pumping. Kinda like...WVU is done and over, we're going to learn and get better. We may not get where we want to be as fast as we all like, but I get the feeling that players will improve under Pruitt.

Agree on the expectations being tempered. I went to Charlotte to see the game with the minuscule "hope" that we could surprise the world and come away with a "W". We wound up doing what I pretty much expected but, seemed more disciplined in doing so, and that gives me comfort in our coach.

I wanna see our offensive calls go more towards our qb throwing the ball because he looked good. Let's see our JG can air it out. Our defense needs to improve but we will see . And I still wanna see chryst play. I wanna see more deep passes guys .

People are talking about a three-year time frame. Others are saying wait for Butch's players to be purged, which I assume would take five years. Based on past experience, I don't think this fanbase is that patient. Individuals yes. But overall we won't wait that long. Butch lasted longer than Dooley because he hit 9 wins in year 3. Pruitt will probably have to do the same.

Good lord. There were some positives on Saturday, despite the blowout. JG, Jordan, and the WRs performed. The O line got it together at times after bad starts in both halfs. Then again WV is not noted for their D.

There were a lot of negatives too. The D looked like garbage mostly. The secondary, in particular, got burned over and over again. Our run D got gashed several times. We got some pressure on their QB a couple times. But, he had all day, just as many times. Given that we hired Pruitt because of his defensive background. That being a weakness is disappointing.

We did spurn a coach for CJP. That was a victory. But, it's more because of the bullet we dodged than who our coach is now. Maybe that will change. Pruitt shows great promise, both in his past, and his reaction to a loss.

But, let's be real.

We will be lucky to make a bowl game. We'll be lucky again if we're over a win better next season. If coach cornbread is the one to build the ladder that gets us out of this hole, it's gonna take time. We have to get better week to week. But that improvement is going to be in baby steps, especially this year.

I hate to lose! However, CJP is a first time, first year coach; coaching a team that was 4-8 last season and winless in the SEC. Another words. CJP took the reins 9 months ago of the worst team in Tennessee football history. In some ways it looks and feels like UT got a self inflicted "death penalty". And if that wasn't enough, an undeveloped, physically and mentally, team is learning new offensive and defensive systems. Respect and trust are earned and CJP is in the process of building a football team, from a group of football players, for the most part, that hasn't respected or trusted a football coach at UT for 10 years. CJP and staff will find on this team and by the recruiting, the players made of the "right kind of stuff", and when that team takes the field, hold on!

This could be a bad season quite likely to be another 4 and 8 hopefully we'll all stay supportive until he gets his players and system totally in place. The 3 -4 defense always takes more than one season to be successful. We have seen this in a lot of places other than Tennessee. Patience is hard considering the last decade of football but again it is something we'll have to embrace and hope we don't have to start over yet again.

Believe "our coach" helped settle a few butterflies this weekend. Always nice to see a drubbing of one of our opponents.
