This is just my honest opinion on things. Coach Pruitt is a no nonsense coach and person. He is honest in his assessment of this team and the players. He is a perfectionist. You can tell that by watching him look at game film. He is always looking for ways to improve. Many of you think he doesn't want to be here. I don't believe that. He is starting to understand what it means to be a Vol. To give an example, he stopped the players on the Vol walk and tried to get them to see the honor they were given. He did this in an attempt to get them to live up to the former tradition. It worked on some but not all. Some think his lack of excitement at interviews and on his show are signs his heart isn't in it. I don't believe that. What I see is a Coach the wants perfection and he is disgusted with many of the players effort. He gives his all trying to win and can't relate to a player with no heart. Some of the players not having heart is part his fault. It goes back to his being honest about some of the players on this team. I can't fault him for being honest. In my opinion a few of the players did not respond like Pruitt expected. If he had made a statement that I was to slow, small and weak I would have done EVERYTHING in my power to change his opinion of my ability. Some chose to give up. A coach can teach technique and improve skill but they can't give heart to a quitter. I have read quotes from players that some of them didn't want to go to a nothing bowl in Nashville or Memphis so they quit. That is what I think happened in the last two games. All it takes is a couple of players on each side of the ball to affect the out come of a game. Just run a step or two behind they guy you are covering and the QB has a career game. We all saw that the last two games. A teammate doesn't try to pressure the QB and QB looks like a pro. An O lineman just moves out of the way and our QB gets drilled or there is no hole for the running back. All the coaching and play calling in the world will not fix these actions. The quitters need to be gone. No coach in the world can give a player pride and heart. There is no motivational speech that can do that either. I feel for Pruitt and the players that gave their all. I for one will not bad mouth the staff until the cancer on this team has been replaced. I honestly think it will take a couple of more years for us to be competing for the East but for now I will go with Pruitt. GO VOLS GO!
