This is just my honest opinion on things. Coach Pruitt is a no nonsense coach and person. He is honest in his assessment of this team and the players. He is a perfectionist. You can tell that by watching him look at game film. He is always looking for ways to improve. Many of you think he doesn't want to be here. I don't believe that. He is starting to understand what it means to be a Vol. To give an example, he stopped the players on the Vol walk and tried to get them to see the honor they were given. He did this in an attempt to get them to live up to the former tradition. It worked on some but not all. Some think his lack of excitement at interviews and on his show are signs his heart isn't in it. I don't believe that. What I see is a Coach the wants perfection and he is disgusted with many of the players effort. He gives his all trying to win and can't relate to a player with no heart. Some of the players not having heart is part his fault. It goes back to his being honest about some of the players on this team. I can't fault him for being honest. In my opinion a few of the players did not respond like Pruitt expected. If he had made a statement that I was to slow, small and weak I would have done EVERYTHING in my power to change his opinion of my ability. Some chose to give up. A coach can teach technique and improve skill but they can't give heart to a quitter. I have read quotes from players that some of them didn't want to go to a nothing bowl in Nashville or Memphis so they quit. That is what I think happened in the last two games. All it takes is a couple of players on each side of the ball to affect the out come of a game. Just run a step or two behind they guy you are covering and the QB has a career game. We all saw that the last two games. A teammate doesn't try to pressure the QB and QB looks like a pro. An O lineman just moves out of the way and our QB gets drilled or there is no hole for the running back. All the coaching and play calling in the world will not fix these actions. The quitters need to be gone. No coach in the world can give a player pride and heart. There is no motivational speech that can do that either. I feel for Pruitt and the players that gave their all. I for one will not bad mouth the staff until the cancer on this team has been replaced. I honestly think it will take a couple of more years for us to be competing for the East but for now I will go with Pruitt. GO VOLS GO!

I dont know if im a fan of stopping the vol walk and preaching to the players. It seems like he is trying to gather fan support for himself because for whatever reason, he cant get the players up for a game.
He seems like a good coach, hopefully he figures out how to be a head coach.

No coach in the world can get a player with no heart up for a game. If you have heart you would have already been up for our last two games. Some our players are quitters, plain and simple. And you can't coach that out of someone. As for him stopping on the Vol walk, it was an attempt to make a change. If you don't want to give him credit for that, it is on you.

Coaches can only do so much as far as getting players fired up to play. The majority of that falls on the player.

Yeah, I know they can only do so much. Good coaches figure it out, bad ones cant. Hope Pruitt can figure it out because having fully stocked teams with 4 star back ups like he has had his entire coaching career is not likely.

Not sure how you got that from Pruitt stopping the Vol walk. I think he has it figured out, it's the players that are having problems figuring things out.

Margin of losses this year 25 points. ….blown out my your little brother in state rival. If that's your definition of him having it figured out...not sure I can help you.

Good coaches recruit players with right attitude and competitive spirit to get themselves up for a game. You cannot coach the insuppressible will to win. you have to find guys who have it.

Good coaches do the best they can with what they have. All these guys had a heart when the signed with UT. He couldn't figure out how to pull it out of them for whatever reason. My guess is his public criticism of players didn't work out to well. Again, it should be expected that Pruitt would struggle in this area as its something he has never had to deal with. Only the future will tell if he figures it out.

From the OP: "I have read quotes from players that some of them didn't want to go to a nothing bowl in Nashville or Memphis so they quit."

I don't keep up with players' social media and the like. Did some of our players actually say this?

Very thoughtfully put.

His public criticism exposed what players are confirming; several layed down and weren't bought in. I guarantee this staff put 110% into coaching and developing these boys.

Pruitt didn't forget how to coach when he arrived in Knoxville. This is a bad team. As pat Summit once said "You can't win the KY derby with a mule." Just don't agree with your assessment, or your spouting off of your opinion as fact. The players that bought in progressed this past year, but from watching the games there were a few who mailed it in. Personally, I will wait before heaping criticism on this coaching staff until they turn the roster over. Lot of players that look like Tarzan and play like Jane on the roster.

True-and our team is a mule. There is just no way around it.

Do I honestly need write something is my opinion when it's obviously just my opinion?
I dont doubt that pruitt forgot how to coach football when he arrived at Tennessee. He is in a situation he has never been in because he doesnt have a team stock full of top team and thus he doesnt know how to motivate a team to perform their best in a difficult situation. Being a head coach has very little to do with coaching football. Pruitt is a rookie head coach and it showed.

Do we know which players quit?

I mean, if you're losing by 25 points to Vandy in a game that could have sent you bowling... I'd say you've quit.

Do you see this crap being tolerated by an Al Wilson type? Did you see UT players dancing on the sideline while losing to Florida during the 90s?

It's a soft, complacent and losing mentality. We need to root that out ASAFP.

I will ask here. Who, from your perspective, mailed it in this year? I really don't know, but I would be interested to hear others opinions. Drew Richmond is the only one that I think may have.
