The most surprising thing about that list is Notre Dame's coach is 59th. Not specifically that Brian Kelly is 59th, but that a program such as Notre Dame is that low on the list.

Also, is that correct that Lovie Smith is making $5 million? $5 million???

From what I remember (which maybe sketchy) is they are a private university and all of his income is not part of this report. Am sure he makes way more.

Very surprising that LS is making that much. I hate ND with a passion but they look legit this year especially after that Stanford win.

By taking a smaller salary I think that he is setting himself up for a long tenure at UT. He knows that good assistants can be in more placed all the time than he can be at any one time. He wants his team to be better and he knows that with that comes wins and eventually more money. He will be able to develop talent, play guys earlier and win at a high level. That increases the funds that the AD can allot to the program and coming full circle, ends with him sitting like Saban. If his plan works out, I see CJP sitting atop rocky top high on his thrown with all of VOLNATION at his feet screaming his praises!!

I thought the exact same thing at first, but if you click the link, you get a pop up that says this:
The pay information listed came from federal tax returns. Documents provide compensation for 2016 calendar year based on all income paid by the school or support organizations, including benefits, perks and performance bonuses. Clawson also had the benefit of a loan from the school that had a $555,000 balance due as of June 30, 2017. A year earlier, the balance due was $375,000.

Don't know why it says "Clawson," could be a typo. If they were able to somehow look at the tax return, that should include everything.

Vandy is a private school too, and they say that Mason makes $2.8m, also confirmed via the federal tax return. Hard to believe Vandy is paying a football coach about 1/3rd more than Notre Dame.

This is a very interesting question. It's probably impossible to answer. However, if Fulmer had been the sitting AD for the entire 2017 football season, I imagine he would have had a short list of names in hand well before the season ended along with a pretty good idea of how realistic the chances of hiring them were.

Haha, It also works the other way too.

"For paying him 4 million dollars, I expect better results." Obviously if he were paid less, losing would be acceptable. So, let's pay me $200, 000 to coach. Problem solved.

It's true the fiasco had a part in the who and when that we ended up in.

all i need is 1 year and a buyout. and i promise, even with that, i 'll still save you a ton of money vs. what w'eve done in the past.

We're joking about it but seriously, that's how I read some posts sometimes when bitc...I mean discussing our coaches salary/success.

They absolutely seem like 8-4 forever would be fine if we were paying him 950,000 a year.

Maybe they just think if we save 3-5 million a year for a few years, then we can pay 10-15 million for "sure things" Mike Leach or Kiffin.

The Sure Thing. Good movie. Nicolette Sheridan was a goddess.

Looking at the list, does this make CJP the highest paid no HCing experience coach? We might know this year how much of a steal that was/is!
