He won't be third on that list much longer. And why are we comparing the importance of each sport all the time? It always leads to conflicts/arguments that we don't need on this board.

how long with coach pearl stay? i mean UT is a football first school (even if it has 10 straight 0-11 seasons) and woman's bball might even be second...will bruce pearl stand to be the coach of a program that is the third most respected at his school?

If he's being paid well, and enough money is being put into the program and facilities, and if the fan support is there, why does it matter whether there are successful football and women's basketball programs at the same school? Why does there have to be a hierarchy?

Certainly there are some coaches who are egotistical enough that they would want to be the biggest deal on campus. But thus far Pearl has, if anything, embraced the other two programs. He has his players lifting weights with the football team. His support of Summitt is obvious. He wants to be a part of all that winning tradition, not in competition with it.

Perfect assessment. I was too short on patience for such a precise statement. This university will be about winning together from here on out.

Men's bball is not third at UT...are you crazy!?

Granted, we support women's basketball better than any other school in the country, but our fan's are far more passionate about men's basketball...we just haven't had much to cheer about before Pearl came.

That's laughable. The majority of Tennessee fans could care less if the university disbanded the women's basketball program tomorrow.

Nice work.

There's no need to go to a "basketball first" school when UT can offer comparable compensation, fan support, and facilities as any other school in the country.

Furthermore, football and basketball feed each other...school's that make a commitment to compete in both can do so...

Look at Ohio St., Florida, USC, Texas A&M, and Tennessee...all traditional football powers, but they all made it to the Sweet 16 this year.

The Men's games were during UT's spring break. I think that kept a lot of students away. Pearl said so himself. He mentioned something about trying to get kids to leave Miami to come to Columbus.
