Coach Martin vs. Coach Dooley (merged)

Supports the case that when Bray was in, our gameplan was to sling the ball around. When we struggled rushing, we abandoned the run gave and jumped on Bray's shoulders. We had to commit to the run more with Worley and Simms. They couldn't get the ball to our playmakers outside as effectively.

No, Simms just hands it off better

He is great at getting off coverage and he never drops the ball but you aren't going to see him stretch the field. That is Garcon's job. Wayne is like the automatic first down.
I say playmaker as in he's their go-to guy in a clutch situation. Not that he can beat you in every aspect. Getting open and being sure-handed to a fault is enough. I agree with everything else.

And they didn't do that with Simms because a 2 yard rush is better than an interception or a sack.

It wasn't 2 yard rushes against LSU and Bama. We ran the ball consistently well against the top 2 defenses in the country yet we can't even get positive yards against UGA and UF.

He is definitely a playmaker in that regard, but Manning usually used Clark and Garcon for the big plays and thats what I consider as a playmaker.

It doesn't have anything to do with an increase of carries due to piss poor QB play, I'm sure of it.

It's Matt's ability to "manage" the run game, even though it's the center's job to make the line calls.

We had less than a 2 ypc with Bray as qb in the SEC. With Simms its was a high 3 against the two top defenses in the country. How is Simms more successful with the running game when Bray can easily beat you with passing. SImms can't do that.

Huh?

Because the coaches put an emphasis on running the ball when Simms was the QB.

Bray has way more to work from a talent standpoint than Simms will ever have. Every coach knows this. They are obviously going to focus on stopping the run more against Simms than Bray. The running game should be better with Bray, but its not even close.

The qb calls audibles at the line of scrimmage. He is supposed to read the defense before the snap and determine from there how to approach the play.

Funny stuff

The Vols didn't run the ball a lot with a future Sunday starter under center. When QB'ed by an NAIA caliber guy, the Vols ran a whole hell of a lot more.

At least, I think that's what it means.

Ok. I was reading it yards per catch instead of carry.

I agree with your rationale obviously. You have a message.

Later. Gotta stamp out ignorance in the 'morrow. Was fun JG.
