I'm surprised that he cites Parker as the top defender amongst the 3 point guards. I would have expected that it would have been Lamonte.

He says that 2 are pure point guards and one is a combo. I assume that Turner is the combo. I'm a little disappointed that Kwe isn't considered a combo as well. There may not be too many minutes to share at the point to get him on the court a lot.

Parker has been well regarded as a great defender throughout high school. But that's not really shown in his highlight videos because his insane dunks overshadow it and it's what gets views.

My excitement level is getting higher and higher as the season approaches. I'm not going to lie this offseason has been one of the most boring offseasons that I can remember.

Parker is the combo he's referring to

Then there are two because he's also talked about starting Bone at the point and Turner at the 2.

He plainly states they consider him a 1, but that he has an ability to score the ball so he could also play some off the ball as well. You will see Turner running point before Parker IMO.

He (or maybe it was Oliver) projected Turner and Bone both starting as written in an article a few weeks back.

It's my feeling that Kwe doesn't log a ton of minutes this season. That's just a guess. But Barnes, like most every good coach, stresses defense. If Kwe's is better than Turner's and Bone's then maybe he'll earn some PT.

If Barnes is going to try to play the 7 second transition he talked about last season but couldn't pull off, keeping fresh legs on the floor will be a priority. Parker could see a ton of minutes.

I just wanna see somebody on the court and then let the court decide what's what...:)

GO VOLS!

I hope that's the plan. I'd rather see high energy, pressing basketball instead of the more boring game that Pearl ultimately ended up playing.

It's still not obvious to me that he's not speaking of Parker and Bone as the true points and Turner as the combo.

WINGS

“Because we’ve got depth at the point guard, the guys who are wings get to be wings. Obviously, of those point guards I mentioned, Lamonté can play off the ball with some production as a scorer. And really, any of those three point guards can play together.

This team is definitely built for speed.

I'm not sure that they'll have three point shooters though. Pushing tempo and knocking down 3s will compensate for a lack of size. Lacking size and outside shooters, if fast break opportunities are denied, will result in ugly basketball.

Turner can stroke the three, Hubbs is supposedly able to now(his corner three has always been money.), mostella is streaky, but he can drain it, and Bowden can hit it. We certainly don't have a booker, or lofton on the team, but we have some capable shooters.

Phillips did it last season. If I remember correctly he shot 3pters at 36%.
Turner and Stella could. Hopefully Hubbs also.
Vintage Barnes ball had 3 or 4 that shot over 35%. But he also had the rim protectors.
We have to beat the other team down the floor before their big guys get set up. So it's going to be a Guns Blazing season.

I can't wait.

We need at least one guy that can be counted on to make 3s if left unguarded along with a point guard that can score (or set up a score). Hubbs can drive, Mostella can slip behind the defense, Schofield can bang in the paint if his defender doesn't tower over him. If there's somebody to set up on the 3 point line then defenses won't be able to pack their guys in the paint (like the TTD). I hope that Mostella is more reliable when he's left open on the perimeter. If TN has several deadly outside shooters then this team could resemble some if those well coached mid-majors that pop up in the NCAAT every year. Like a Butler or a VCU or a Valparaiso.

TN doesn't have the near 7 footer that weighs 260 plus, but Alexander is around 6'10" and was a soccer player for years. He can run the court. The comments about Evans makes it sound like he'll be able to run the court and be disruptive. Even Fulkerson might turn out to be a human fly swatter in the paint.

I usually prefer to see TN play a methodical, chess match type of structured offense. But I'm hoping to witness a chaotic, Loyola-Marymount approach with this roster.

In all fairness, we don't know that yet. Two of the guys you mentioned haven't played a single minute for us yet. We didn't know what we had in Lofton before he played a game. Until then, he was just a late signing by Buzz on the fringe of the top-150.

Yea but he did say 2 guys play the position by trade and Turner and Bone were point guards coming in, Parker was a SG because he had the best PG in the country on his HS team
