Yeah, I wasn't expecting that either. While there is a lot to say about experience, there's just as much to say about ability. These twins may be the coup of the decade if they just play to their potential.
I'm not surprised at all. The Pauldo Twins will be a household name on the collegiate level soon.

Lots of Legends in the making if they stick around and buy into CKC system. LV Basketball is back to a perennial top 5 program. I expect we will continue to improve as more athletes are on the team that can press, run and transition as quickly as needed. It only looks positive. Final Four for both men and women is legitimate outlook for this upcoming season. Can’t wait! We have one heck of a program across the board.

Thanks for the podcast. Learned a lot more. Coach’s system just makes sense when you have her break it down like she does. And good lord, expecting 35 forced TOs while committing less than 12 is quite the goal lol

Her mentioning she evens out her groups but starts each half and ends each half with her best 5

I think the starters will be Mia, Talaysia, Ruby, Barker and Zee. Wouldn’t surprise me if Latham starts though, expecting her to improve a lot. The combinations are honestly endless with this group. Going to be interesting to watch it all unfold. Think we see a lot of Jaida and Kaiya if their defense is as advertised.
Also, Kaniya. I believe she was third in steals last year to coop and spencer. Spencer had 45 and Kaniya had 42 as a freshman.

presser takeaways:

not surprised by caldwell's praise of mia pauldo
perfectly fits the system and mold of caldwell's past point guards;
abby beeman (marshall), bri campbell (marshall & gsu) and reshawna stone (gsu)
all were 5'6'' or under, had great command of the offense and could score in bunches

not surprised by caldwell's assessment of kaniya boyd and nya robertson
robertson is more of a scorer and playmaker than a point guard
while boyd's a great defender and hustler, she's still developing on offensive side

loved hearing the progress of alyssa latham and her objectives for the season
if she's able to be consistent like coach said and is able to reach her personal goals
she'll be an all sec candidate, without question

practice takeaways:

the two lineups for the full court press drills via cora hall's write-up;
mia,kaiya, ruby, barker, jersey vs. boyd, mya, coop, lyss, zee

this reminded me of a podcast that was recently shared on twitter by fullcourtchaos
it was a caldwell interview (kim stephens at the time) from february 2022 by championship vision
and one of the insights caldwell shared was on how she determined her playing units
i won't ruin it for those who want to listen to the podcast, which i'll link at the bottom

as we all know, caldwell starters are always subject to change but she did have solidified units
one was spencer, ruby, tess, lyss and jill, the other was boyd, spear, coop, puckett and zee
but caldwell's best and "go to" unit was spencer, spear, ruby, coop and zee
curious to see if these practice lineups become actual in-game units

really happy to hear kaiya wynn has bounced back and is already in the thick of things
i don't know if any of yall will remember this but prior to wynn tearing her achilles
caldwell said that kaiya was the best defender on the team

I think Kaniya Boyd may surprise you on the offensive side because she proved to be very efficient last year. She had the second highest shooting percentage on last years team at 48.5% from the guard position. That is a heck of a shooting percentage for a guard anywhere, especially one who a freshman. She wasn't flashy, and didn't shoot alot, but when she shot the ball, there was a good chance it was going in. 47 of 97 from the floor needs to have the ball in her hands more on the offensive end.

💯

I always felt confident in Kaniya as she took shots. I also felt like she was, for much of the season, the most underrated player on the team. She did eventually prove her true value, but still ...

I hope she doesn't shrink back too long in trying to accommodate/acclimate new teammates this season. My hope is that she will help build the freshmens' confidence for a while but then begins to establish her place as the player with a year of experience under her belt.

I was highly impressed by Boyd last season and think she's got as good a chance as ANY other player on the team to have a breakout season. Love her!
