Coach Kiff already recruiting!!

Let's not forget that Kiffin came into Nashville and stole Patrick Turner (Goodpasture) right out from under CPF's nose...

He knows what he's doing.

No doubt about it. Who do you think can relate more to an 18 year old kid than Lane Kiffin? He's young, energetic, and is a proven recruiter. That's the head coach's main responsibility anyway: recruit and manage the team/media. If I were an 18 year old kid I would rather play for a guy like Kiffin vs an older guy that I can't relate to as much.

kick Drayton to the curb fast (I hope his office is already empty) and do your best to use Reaves to get him back to UT.

It's wayyyyy to early to say, and it's easy to get "honeymoon syndrome", but I have a feeling that UT football is about to explode.

Go Vols.

Recruiting at TN from day 1 was a must. I am very pleased to see he is happy to get back on the trail. Reassure the ones we have and maybe pick up a couple of others. Go Vols.

Summary:

Kiffin is going to do something special at Tennessee.

Lets hold off on that one until we play next year. Like I heard on the radio when someone was asked about how they thought Kiffin would do at TN, the response was "Ask me after the Florida game next year."

Recruiting before he's been officially announced sure shows his dedication to getting the top players out there.

Agree, I don't expect miracles out there next year but solid improvement and a good look into the future will be satisfactory to begin with...win 8 or 9 gams and then We'll see what the future holds...Anybody else watch USC's game with Notre Dame last night?...I was in hopes of seeing the different offensive schemes USC was using as I am sure that's the style We will get at UT....I was impressed :eek:k:

My question is: can he recruit the players already on the team? With some of the talk of discontentment among some of the current players (Berry), it is going to be important for Kiffin to win them over as well as the new potential recruits.

He'll get that chance when he's introduced to the team this afternoon. I'll be interested to get first impressions from the players.

In his conversation with Giles this morning, Kiffin astutely pointed out that he coached Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush while at USC.

That made an impression.

THAT is what I am talking about. His usc exploits should resonate on the recruiting trail.

This is very impressive to see this man already recruting for the Vols without having the title yet! Shows alot of dedication. I hope he can also recruit a good OC!

You mean he needs to win over a bunch of guys who just went 5-7, lost to Wyoming and got their coach fired?

Gaining Berry's respect and trust will be key. Gain that, and the rest of the players will surely follow.

definitely. i think it will be easier than initially thought. all of the players were trying to be true and loyal to fulmer while he was still here but now that he's gone it will be easier to get the players on his side i think. he's young and can work with them and get in their graces. there will be a few players who are stubborn, but i think g jones, berry, mccoy, and others rally around the new coach. he's worked with bigger egos in USC and the pros. there's no telling what kind of tricks that monte has in his bag.
